4.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this unless you plan on reading the others 22 Jun. 2005

Format: Mass Market Paperback Verified Purchase
This book was okay, but it has two subplots going on at the same time. If you read the book synopsis, you think that it is all about a woman who was fat and a little unattractive until she is in a horrible car accident and has to have extensive plastic surgery. Without any previous pictures of the woman, her husband uses one from her twin sister. After six months being in a coma, the woman awakes to find herself looking like an entirely different person and not trusting those she loves.

Meanwhile, there is a serial killer on the lose who has fixated on her. He kills blonde haired, blue eyed women by slowly draining their blood. The police chief Clair Drummond is on the case, but is coming up without any leads. This part of the book does not have an ending. You will read up until the last page expecting the reveal only to see that it concludes into the next book. After reading that one, you will also be left hanging. The killer's identity is not revealed until the last in the trilogy entitled "SHE'LL NEVER LIVE" You must read at least the first and the last to know who the killer is. It can be very frustrating if you are not willing to read the others.

The suspense in this book is not near as good as the last, however it isn't too bad for this author's first book. I just think that the theme was drug out too much. For a romantic suspense novel, I wouldn't say there is much in the romance part of it. I was however unable to purchase the second in the series and I am kind of glad. The first book frustrated me enough that I don't know that I could have gotten through a whole other book without knowing the killer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Edge Of Your Seat Reading! 24 Sept. 2004
By Kristi Ahlers - Published on
Format: Mass Market Paperback
This was without a doubt one of the better suspense reads that I've had the chance to read in awhile. The whole premise of having a second chance to live life the way you would like to when things didn't quite go the way you would like them the first time is great. Add to that a twin sister that may or may not be all that she appears to be and a new admire that doesn't have good intentions and you have the makings of a great page turning read.

This was the first time I've ever read Hunter Morgan and I must admit to being impressed. This was a fast read that kept me glued to the pages until the final chilling pages. This is one read that I recommend to those that love SUSPENSE in their "romantic supsense" reads.

4.0 out of 5 stars Part of a trilogy - won't find out who the serial killer is in this book. 28 Jun. 2005
By Sunshine "Chey" - Published on
Format: Mass Market Paperback
I was very disappointed not to find out who the BloodSucker was in this book.

This book begins with Marcy talking about her depressing life, and how fat and ugly she is, and soon after she finds herself in a rainstorm while driving while eating fast food, and ends up in an terrible accident.

Her face mostly torn off, and it was amazing that she was resusitated, after her van being completely totalled... but she remained in a coma for 6 months. During this time, she has lost weight (just from being in the hospital) and they did reconstructive surgery on her face, which they needed a picture of her in order to look as she did before. Of course, there were no pictures of her, because she wouldn't allow anyone to ever take a picture of her being ashamed of her old looks, so her husband had to hand over a picture of her twin sister.. the beautiful, thin Phoebe. She wakes up looking like a model, basically. And starts to make changes with her life. Trying to find herself. While she was in a coma, her twin sister started moving in on her family and into her house, and she becomes a nuisance in the book. In the end Marcy's relationship with her husband is stronger than ever, and theres one 'hot' scene on the beach with them. There is a shock reveal about Phoebe at the end of the book.

All the while there is a serial killer on the loose. He is into the blonde hair, blue eyed women. And really wants Marcy. He is well-known in the community, so his presence isn't unusual. So nobody ever suspects him. He choses his victims, and finds a clever way to approach them, and before they realize whats happening, he covers their mouths and nose with a knockout chemical, and puts them in his truck. He goes back to his place, ties them up in a chair, and slits thier wrists and drains the blood out of them, and gets pleasure out of this. He dumps thier bodies in or near dumpsters, and every one in town is shocked this is happening in their town, and can't figure out who this can be, that is doing this. He claims three victims in this book. It was very suspenseful, and like any other book, you get excited in finding out who this person is, and I find out it is a trilogy and the bloodsucker will not be revealed until the third book. I was very disappointed, and find it is going to be pretty drawn out....

I have my suspicions who it is, though the book has MANY male characters to guess from. I have two people in mind. I guess I'll tell you who I think it is, but I could be wrong... the mayor or the officer McCormick, and for awhile I even thought it could be Kevin James, who knows her from her time in the hospital. Maybe it is. Don't know. But those are only my personal guesses. Could it even be Kurt? Could it be Billy? If you pay attention the blood sucker is present while some other male characters are as well, so I can easily scratch those people out. Like Seth.... the real estate agent.

But my thoughts are the mayor or McCormick, who always seems to arrive at every crimescene first.... hmmmmm

In the end Marcy and her family are happy and made it through this ordeal with Phoebe, and their personal troubles, and manage to get away from this serial killer, thankfully, but the next books he is up to no good as usual, preying on more innocent people.

I have yet to read the other books, but I am told the last book is the best and gives the reveal. If anyone figures it out soon, I wish you would spill who it is.. hee hee...

Overall it was a good book, suspenseful book, just the fact that this is going to be drawn out is very unappealing to me!

Hope this helps some.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the story line! 12 Dec. 2007

I read all of the 3 books in the trilogy and I thought they were great. I couldn't stop until I finished them! Considering I live in the area that these books were focused I could picture the places the characters went and the places named in the books!
I have read all her novels now and find them just a good read!

I had never read anything by Hunter Morgan before. I found it very intriging. I have ordered the following 2 in this trilogy. I can't wait to get them. Believe it or not, there are some families like this out there.
