Product Description

About the Author

Sheila Simkin, a native Chicagoan, has been traveling the world since 1960. The travel bug first hit on her honeymoon in Miami. Fidel Castro had just taken over Cuba and lured by rock-bottom prices, Sheila sweet-talked her ex-husband into abandoning Miami for Cuba. That marked the beginning of her lifetime travel passion and addiction. There are very few countries that are not on her to-see list no matter how remote and/or difficult they may be with many, "What was I thinking of" moments in hindsight. The U.S. State Department recognizes 193 independent countries and she has visited over 150 in over 40 years of travel (but...who's counting). Touring, hiking, trekking, rafting, snowshoeing, skiing, volunteering on archaeological digs, family trips and, she must admit, occasionally sitting on a beach and compulsively shopping. Her goal is to encourage you to take the big step and travel to more exotic, remote destinations with tips, anecdotes and reassurance that, yes, you will come back alive. Visit her "travelswithsheila" channel on YouTube to watch over 1,400 videos filmed around the world and covering the gamut from taking a cruise to camping in Egypt's desert, food (fried tarantulas, anyone?), sights and even instructions on how to navigate subways in Paris and Beijing. All Travels With Sheila Guides will tell you the truth, and only the whole truth, about each country and whether sights are a hit, or a miss. Follow Sheila's advice to avoid making mistakes she learned the hard way. For example, not knowing that an important piece of equipment when camping or trekking is...an AIR MATTRESS? A never to be forgotten experience spent in a sleeping bag on the cold, hard ground of Nepal. And what kind of crazy idiot goes trekking in Siberia and gets lost? Really...lost in Siberia? Only Sheila. Happy traveling!

This little book is just to salivate your appetite for more information on this beautiful city. Not very useful on its own and very expensive for the information it contains. It is a bit like a traveller's journal. Unfortunately, author and I have different tastes.

This is little more than a holiday 'blog'. I certainly would not describe it as a guide. There are no maps or no comprehensive information about Antalya. It looks like a homemade booklet and contains some poor quality black and white photos which seem irrelevant. There are a few bits of useful information but nothing you couldn't get from 5 mins research on the internet. Antalya has not got that many attractions but Sheila doesn't even nearly cover the most obvious ones, like the Antiquities Museum. I certainly won't be taking it with me to Antalya as there is nothing to refer to once you have read it. I appreciate that 'Sheila's Guides' may have a quaint attraction and perhaps some people really like them but I think the Antalya one is overpriced and pretty useless. I have now ordered a DK guide to South Western Turkey.

Not a very useful guide, except for the detailed description of a Turkish bath. More personal musings than a guide, and many interesting places missing.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for my trip! 13 July 2012
By tk_seggel - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I stayed at a resort in Turkey and decided to do a side trip to Antalya. Unfortunately most of the tourists and tour guides speak only French. I was happy to be able to download this book on Kindle and understand what I was seeing. Sheila's guide was perfect an covered everything I saw. I was able to read the whole thing on the way to the city and highlighted all the site names for easy location once I was there. This guide was perfect for me and I am happy to have my Kindle too!

It is a relatively short guide, but being personal and informative, it is worth a quick read before your trip.
