About the Author

Melinda Leigh abandoned her career in banking to raise her kids and never looked back. She started writing as a hobby and became addicted to creating characters and stories. Since then, she has won numerous writing awards for her romantic suspense fiction. She Can Scream is the 3rd instalment in the She Can... series and can be read as a stand alone novel.

Guilt, especially Survivor's guilt can truly eat at a person until they are a shell of their former self. Brooke has been living with her guilt for over sixteen years, ever since her college roommate was found murdered. It has had a huge impact on every aspect of her life from her relationships to her decision making. Brooke teaches self defence to women in a bid to save someone else from suffering the same fate as her friend, following one of her classes she hears a scream which leads her to interrupt a vicious assault. Brooke is plagued with thoughts of the victim and memories of her friends murder, neither let her walk away from the case, even when she fears her own life may be in danger.

Brooke's brother Wade has to leave but he needs to know his sister is protected, asking his friend Luke to step in and keep an eye on her seems like the perfect solution. Luke is in town visiting his Grandmother, which is just an excuse to escape his own life, where he is still recovering from being a victim of a terrorist attack during which he lost a friend/assistant, while he was working overseas. Luke see's this as a second chance and he is determined not to fail Brooke, he has to keep her alive no matter the cost.

Brooke and Luke's relationship has the makings of a disaster movie but somehow Melinda truly makes their relationship work. They grow and learn from each other and I truly believe they could help each other heal, given enough time. The story itself had all the twists, turns and misdirection's that I have came to expect from Melinda. I did figure out the identity of the attacker, however Melinda did surprise me a little with certain turns. Can't wait for She Can Hide!

I really like that She Can Scream is a very modern story. The potential dangers of social media are highlighted and are very real. This added a whole other layer of believability to the plot.

Brooke is the heroine, and she's still struggling with a tragedy that occurred years ago. I like how she's trying to keep her friends memory alive, but at the same time it seemed like she was punishing herself and unable to move forward in a lot of ways.

Luke, the hero, is Brooke's brother Wade's friend and he's in town for a week to visit with his Grandma. Luke is broken inside too. He has his own hauntings that make moving on and living life difficult for him.

These two come together first out of a sense of protectiveness on Luke's side when he promised Wade he'd look out for Brooke and her kids, but as danger gets closer, things start to heat up between Luke and Brooke also. I liked these two main characters. On the surface they are very different, but once I got to know them better the more and more it was like they belonged together. Can he help Brooke stay safe even as she tries to investigate what the police are already investigating? And what about the future? Present day circumstances and being together force Brooke and Luke to take more steps away from the past and into the future, but will they have a chance together?

At times Brooke was frustrating because she was so entrenched in survivor's guilt, then guilt through association with what is happening now...and she is determined to find out who the attacker is, even when it's not safe for her to be digging into the investigation.

This book has great characters, suspense, romance and murder in all the right quantities which made it really difficult to put down. Even working out who the killer was early on didn't spoil the ending
I wasn't aware of this author until an ad for this novel appeared on my Kindle, I've already pre-ordered the next book!

I love the way that the She Can Series link together, with the characters recurring throughout.
Melinda Leigh' s style of writing works really well and is a brilliant read throughout. I am really looking forward to reading the fourth in the series.

I read this book over a couple of days. It has some interesting twists and moved along ok but I didn't "connection" properly with the two main characters and found it was less enjoyable because I brought they were a bit too damaged for my liking.

I have never heard of this author, and only purchased the book for my Kindle, as it was the daily deal.I read the first chapter before i purchased it, and was hooked! I read the last third of the book in one siting, as I couldn't put it down. I told my sister about it, and she has bought it in paperback to take on holiday in a few days, and I have looked at the other books in the 'she can' series for my next read. All in all, a cracking read.
