Review

Praise for "Shatner Rules: "

"This book is an utter delight. It is, literally, laugh-out-loud funny. The stories are full of twists that are at times surreal--like having Henry Rollins and Rush Limbaugh together at a football party in Bill's house. "Shatner Rules "is a light, clever, witty book that is all about enjoying life from the perspective of a now eighty-year-old man with fascinating stories to tell... this is a great read."--"Portland Book Review"

"The galaxy's most famous starship captain offers a mostly tongue-in-cheek guide to his rules for living, complete with anecdotes and life lessons. Eighty years old and still going strong with multiple TV shows, films, books and appearances...Shatner's lust for life shines through... Whatever the situation--be it an awkward dinner with Charlton Heston or a fight to the death with a wild boar--Shatner applies his rules as only he can...[his] fans will relish the opportunity to learn from the master."--"Kirkus Reviews "

About the Author

William Shatner has cultivated a career spanning over fifty years as an award-winning actor, director, producer, writer, recording artist, and horseman. He is one of Hollywood's most recognizable figures and a major philanthropist. In 1966, Shatner originated the role of Captain James T. Kirk in the television series" Star Trek." The series spawned a feature film franchise where Shatner returned as Captain Kirk in seven of the "Star Trek" movies, one of which he directed. Shatner played the title role in the hit television series "T.J. Hooker "and won several Emmys and his first Golden Globe for his role on "The Practice" and "Boston Legal." "Shatner's Raw Nerve," currently airing on Bio, is his edgy celebrity interview series. Most recently, he was the star of the CBS sitcom "$#*! My Dad Says, "a sitcom based on a Twitter feed of the same name. Shatner has authored nearly thirty fiction and nonfiction titles, including his autobiography, "Up Til Now, " which was a "New York Times "bestseller. An avid horse rider and breeder, he has won numerous world championships in several equine events. His passions for horses and philanthropy were united when he started the Hollywood Charity Horse Show in 1990. The annual event benefits Los Angeles-based children's charities.
Chris Regan is a five-time Emmy Award-winning comedy writer who has written for "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart "and "Lopez Tonight." He was one of the contributors to the "Daily Show"'s bestselling "America (The Book)" and is the author of "Mass Historia: 365 Days of Historical Facts and (Mostly) Fictions."

As a person who is a mere generation removed from that of William Shatner, I was thrilled that this book 'spoke' to me. From the wonderful cover photo to the very last sentence, I could not put this book down. In fact, I read it over the short span of two evenings.

A funny yet simultaneously serious look at life, Shatner Rules has me at last understanding the concept behind self-promotion. NOTE: As a writer myself, I've never been comfortable with promoting my work. Thanks to Bill Shatner, that has changed.

Throughout the stories and anecdotes this reader came away with the intended message: Say yes to opportunity because it may lead to something better. That happened frequently for Mr. Shatner and reading about it made for great entertainment. There were many places where I had to simply read passages aloud for my husband. My favorite story is of the William Shatner Thanksgiving Blowout!

Thank you Mr. Shatner for such an entertaining book and for teaching this reviewer the secret behind Saying Yes!

Please don't get me wrong - I adored Shatner's previous book 'Up til Now' which was all over the place but so entertaining, but this seems quite bitter in places and spoilt the light touch that he generally has.

This book was a true joy to read. I wasn’t even suppose to read, my plan was just to check in the first chapter but I was hooked, line and sinker. It was a quick read; it was both easy written and so funny that I couldn’t stop reading. Star Trek is kind of a big thing in America (see image below)

William Shatner is and always will be (I almost quoted the wrath of khan) best known for roll of Captain Kirk. If you want a deep biography about Shatner and Star Trek, this isn’t the book for you, then you should read Star Trek Memories and/or Star Trek Movie Memories. But if you want a couple of hour of entertainment, then this book is for you!

Read by William Shatner, this book is a must. I love his sense of humor and his acerbic asides make it even funnier.
I enjoyed the audiobook so much I bought the book!
