Looked around on the internet looking at a number of combination microwave ovens and went for this Sharp.

Now having used it for just over a month got to say I am very pleased with it. Roomy interior, 40L size, plenty of room. Easy to use. Great results.

You can also do batch cooking, using the supplied two slide-in shelves (convention only). However, you do need to turn the food manually now and again (as stated in the book), as cooking in this way tends to burn at the rear quickly, near the heat source. It's not really a problem as 95% of the time cook using the two round racks provided, on the turntable - food rotates and does not burn.

Overall, would recommend this microwave.

So far (used it for 2 months) it's a super machine saving oodles of power (and thus money) compared to a standard gas/electric oven. I previously used a similar but smaller Sharp combi for over 10 years, which was also brilliant except the grill didn't last long. The R98STM uses the grill to pre-heat and I worry that if the grill fails will the oven pre-heat using the electric fan? So I have purchased an extended warranty!
As on the previous oven the lamp is a 'B' to change as it necessitates removal of the complete cover to gain access. The control panel is sometimes awkward to see and I find it necessary to get myself down to eye level with the panel to see it properly. But then I am 70!

I never a fan of combi but changed my mind after my other half purchased this. So easy to use, so easy to clean and by golly never known pizza to come out so well in err 5 minutes?! Brilliant.

However, there is a knack to perfecting the cooking and it comes with experimenting. So don't expect instant results - just like with anything else there is a knack to how long things are done to they way you want, as most guidance in the manual are for general advise.

I Purchased this product after its Predecessor's microwave power began to fade after 12 years regular usage. I don't have an oven and use at least one of the microwave, combination features, grill and combination oven several times a day. This oven is large enough to take a christmas turkey and, using the auto cook facility, cooks pizzas in a way I've never been able to achieve with just using any oven on its own.

I've had this model for just over a year now, and it definitely seems to be living up to the model I had before - which was absolutely identical in operation and size, though the model number has been changed. This combi is very easy to use and far less complex than the Panasonic model I have just bought to replace my secondary combination oven (an Aldi model which stopped working after 4 year).

In a nutshell, the Sharp R98STMA is efficient, reliable, easy to use, large enough to cook for the whole family and can be all singing and dancing for anyone who wants something more than a basic oven and microwave facility. It is simply "The Best!

This is possibly the best value and functionality Combi I have seen for years, it is an essential for any one into serious cooking. I have read some critics complain about the max initial time setting only going to 99 minutes, which it does.
What I do if I need say a 2 hr cook, set for 90mins, when it goes down to 60mins left, press the 10min key 3 times takes it to 90 again, there is your 2 hrs. (simples)
I think I read somewhere in the manual that the reason for this shorter time setting is a safety feature; stops people setting the timer for 4 hours and perhaps set oven temp at 240c when they wanted 130c to slow cook and going out of the house to come back to a 'no house'. As another poster pointed out, you can use the revolving racks for convection cooking. These are for 'Yorkshire Pudding' recipes etc. It clearly tells you to use both the high and low racks. ( This avoids having to turn 1/2 way ) which would ruin them. The book refers to '2 X shelves', '2 X racks' (high & low in both) & 'ceramic plate on the turntable'. If you cannot turn the item once you start cooking it, then use the racks on the turntable. The only time you cannot use the shelves is when you microwave, or Grill, or any dual cook programme that involves either micro and grill. Reason for this being, steel touching sides of oven will damage microwave; using shelves to grill will burn at the back. Because of the 40 ltr size of the oven you can use any oven proof dish on the 'racks' as long as these are no bigger than 30cm in diameter,(that is nearly 12 ins. in real money)they will revolve without touching the sides, cooking very evenly.
Having had the Sharp `Carousel' (Large) Combi previously many years, it lasted 25 yrs.

I was somewhat skeptical when I realised that this oven used the grill element as the heat source for the convection oven. My previous one (not a Sharp) used the same system, but unlike the Sharp, it took ages to heat up and it was a case of burning the top, while leaving the bottom nearly raw. This Sharp oven couldn't be more opposite, everything comes out done to perfection. I only use the oven shelves for grilling, as I think it would defeat the object of say making a cake, then having to turn it round halfway through cooking, resulting I should think, with a lot of collapsed cakes!! The only niggle I had was the length of the plug cable supplied. I had to buy an extension cable, and the plug socket is quite near the microwave oven. Apart from that, everything else is fine. I would most definitely recommend this product.
