Then my wife saw the Sharp Sound Bar on QVC we looked at prices delivery costs etc and Amazon came out on top it took about 15 min to set up and what a difference you can hear every word even on sky HD (which was the worst one before) i honestly can not fault it,it takes up no room at all as it stands over the top of our DVD player to give some idea of sound quality we have a DAB radio and the sound bar is equal in sound to that.
The soundbar is simply superb & discretely small enough to be unobtrusive in front of my LCD TV. The sound is so much better than from the TV speakers ( maybe not quite as good as a full 5.1 sound system) but sufficient with enough bass & woofer ( 2 speakers & 4 subwoofers) without any distortion.
The other advantage is that it is usually unnecessary to use it's remote once you have set it as it is so automatic in operation.
Switch on the TV & the soundbar is switched on by the sound signal & off again( to standby) when you turn off the TV.
All in all a sperb system for the price.
One big thing to watch out for that was driving me crazy for ages, was that the device kept going to stand-by all the time.
What i did to resolve the problem was to purchase a gold plate audio cable, connected one end to the head phone socket on the rear of the television and the other end to Line 2 at the rear of the sound bar.
I found that when inserting the cable in to Line 2 so that it click in to place (like you normally would with any connections), the sound was muffled and distorted. Instead i pulled it out a little approx 2mm and the sound was then clear and the standby mode worked correctly, when i turned off the television the sound bar turned off and vice versa.
I think the connection on the back of Line 2 is not quite right and looks like a design flaw.
Hopefully this will help other people with the same problem and will save them from all the stress i had.
The sound quality from the six speakers majors on clarity rather than bone-shaking loudness or deep bass. There's plenty of volume for a living room. In "standard" mode, just about everything sounds vastly better than my 37" TV could manage, including speech and music of all kinds. I've tried the music channels and the Proms with equal satisfaction. You can adjust the amount of bass boost on a scale of 0-5, using the neat remote control. Normally, you do not need to use the remote or touch the soundbar, because it switches on automatically within a few seconds of receiving sound, and drops into standby (only 0.6W) when the sound goes off. Brilliant. "News" mode gives extra clarity to speech and "cinema" mode exaggerates bass and treble. I am not sure what "sports" mode is for. Instructions are brief and well-written.
Some extras: Firstly, this is a great sound bar for your iPod or other MP3 player. Just plug it into the jackplug socket. And secondly, don't forget all the radio channels your TV will receive. They sound great, too.
I think you would have to spend £200-300 more to get dramatically better results. I'm very glad I bought this product.
