The book was originally written by the late Abd Ar-Rahman I. Doi and was revised and expanded in 2008 by Abdassamad Clarke.

What impressed me the most about this book is the writing style. The language used in the book is very easy to read and understand. It's a pain-free law book I've ever read! (Note that I am no lawyer).

The book covers almost, if not all, aspects of the Shariah law. The background of the law was disscussed with reference to Quran, authentic hadiths and the Four principal shools of law. Different views of the principal schools are also mentioned in the book.

This book is a very good start for ANYONE who is interested in the Shariah Law.

Just started reading this book, but I really appreciate the clear and concise break down of what is Shariah law. There is so much misunderstanding of this concept (even amongst Muslims) and this book does a great job (in the first chapters even) at explaining what this is really about. I wish more people would read this book and understand that Islam law 1)is nothing to be feared because it respects and honors ALL people and religions 2) is not going to be implemented and take over ANY country 3) that Muslims countries do not even implement it, and if they did, there would be far less turmoil and violence amongst them.

This is an extensive look into the rulings and principles of the four major schools of thought of the Sunni branch of the Islamic faith. After reading, one will understand the basis for most rulings in the history of the religion. I recommend some understanding of what the science of Fiqh is before reading this work. Excellent resource for intermediate and advanced students.
