Having overcome my initial disappointment however, the actual contents of this book are very well written and the chapters take you through in a logical order to explore the end user interface of SharePoint 2013.
It is very useful as a guide on your first look around SharePoint, either as part of the Office 365 offering or as an on premises SharePoint installation.
As one of the first books out, well worth a look. In a few months there will be other books no doubt going into more depth.
I would recommend buying the Kindle / ebook version of this so that you get the videos and extra content embedded, but otherwise you can send off the receipt for access to the videos on their website.
The book doesn't cover everything but there's enough to provide a good look at what the latest incarnation of this very popular platform contains. The book is also mercifully short so can be read through quite quickly. These days all too many books seem to go for bulk, positioning themselves as 'reference books' and usually end up spending most of their lives on the shelf. Not that you'd put this one on the shelf as it's a kindle book. In fact, it's a enhanced eBook which contains embedded videos. This is a nice touch but the videos only seems to work on iOS devices. However, purchase of the book entitles you to one month's free membership of an excellent website which contains hundreds of SP videos of all flavours covering a wide range of subjects - of interest to real users!
It's well written and the author's passion for the subject clearly shines through. I enjoyed reading the book and watching the accompanying videos. There's plenty here to whet your appetite for what to expect in this latest, greatest version.
I'd like to see links embedded in the eBook which link directly to the videos on the site mentioned in the text as an alternative to the embedded videos.Read more ›
Would recommend waiting until more established tomes are out in a couple of months for reference and use the Microsoft and other online references until then
