Wai Fung (David Chiang) is forced into working for the emperor as an undercover spy. He is to go to the rich, Tien family mansion and find proof of their rebellious activities within one year, or rather harshly, his own family are to be executed!
So off he goes, and as luck would have it, arrives just as Gi Gi, the spoilt grand daughter of patriarchal kung fu master Tien, is sacking her old teacher. He sees the opportunity and so applies for the post, becoming employed as the replacement teacher..
Fung keeps his expert kung fu skills hidden and teaches Gi Gi practical subjects like Maths and English, even though she prefers her kung fu lessons.
The naive Gi Gi begins to form a crush on Wai Fung, and seeing the day to his family's execution getting ever nearer, he decides it will be a good idea to marry her in the hope that he might gain the Tien family's trust in him, which may finally allow him a chance to get the evidence he so needs to save his own folks.
After the wedding, Fung actually begins to fall for his wife, and together they try to break free from the Tien family home (Fung has found evidence) and leads a tragic wake in his path, when he is beaten up by Big Daddy Tien, leaving him without the evidence and in the wilderness, with only a Mantis for a friend...

Pretty good this one. Lau Kar Leung directs, choreographs and stars his brother Lau Kar Wing as Big Daddy Tien. The lack of Leung's usual brand of humour is noticeably missing from this one, with an at times, outright nihilism, rearing it's ugly head instead.
Chiang does a decent job as the unfortunate hero and many of the usual suspects 'Shaw' up in the different roles (Lily Li... Hell Yeah!), with the fight action at the high standard you would expect.
