Gutsy and full-blooded city cop Shannon Aguerri has been repositioned from Brixton to a small village called Fleetworth-Green after a string of individualistic and eccentric assignments which threaten to go out of hand. Her hope of leading a quiet and peaceful life was quashed when she comes across a group of teenage delinquents. While the rest of the teens fled, one remains. Shannon decides to walk him home and learns that his name is Ben and that he has been recently charged with a crime. Ben is the son of Spencer, the widowed 11th Earl of Bloxington.
When Shannon meets Spencer, they hit it off immediately. As is her nature, Shannon does not go by the book. She manipulated him to her advantage. But it is not smooth going as she has a rival in Jasmine de Montfort, who also belongs to the upper class. Soon she realizes that the sleepy village may secretly be hiding a lot of things. There are several interesting threads to the story, and all merge beautifully to make one entertaining story.
Emma Calin is different from many established authors whose books I have reviewed. I was intrigued by the title and was keen to find out how the story pans out. I must confess that I was absolutely delighted with her overall treatment of the story though the book is certainly not without its flaws. I’m glad I decided to take a chance and have a look at Shannon’s Law. There are some graphic adult scenes which may deter some readers. It has been made to appear a necessary part of the story. All in all, Shannon’s Law is a refreshing read from a new author for me. A real page-turner, the story will come to an end sooner than you realizes.
Shannon is a Police Woman who has been transferred to the small village of Fleetworth-Green to become a routine village cop. She comes upon a group of teenagers who are engaging in drugs & drinking. All the boys flee except one. She walks back to his "house" with him. During the walk she discovers he has recently been charged with a crime, but Shannon has a feeling that things are not adding up. The "house" is Bloxington Manor. Home to the boy Ben & his father Spencer, the widowed Earl of Bloxington. There are immediate sparks between Shannon & Spencer. There is also a rival in the form of one upper class female, Jasmine de Montfort.
Shannon soon suspects there may be people & drug trafficking in the small quite village. She plays it close to chest to avoid being seen as the usual wild child cop she usually is. Things soon heat up & not only between the sheets. What is going on is just the tip of a very big iceberg. Will Shannon get the man & will she be commended for breaking open a very big & important case againt millionaire criminals.
This book truly had a little of everything. There was steamy sex scenes (not too bawdy), action & some hilarity, murder, soaked cats & a horse trampling the vegetable garden.
I very much enjoyed this book & feel fortunate to have received a free copy of it. This was my first time reading a book by Emma Calin & I will definitely be looking forward to reading more in the future.
I loved all the British sayings & descriptions of the places. Love reading books about other locales & Britain seems to be quite a great backdrop to a fabulous book!!

Sparks fly instantly, and while Shannon realizes the huge difference their stations in life, the Earl seems to disregard this. He is smitten with her. Enter Jasmine, the rich high-classed rival.
As the love affair develops, author Emma Calin keeps the reader intrigued with its ups and downs while at the same time developing a police story that at times plays out in the foreground and other times in the background.
I was pulled into the story not only by the events, but by the characters and their relationships. The author created characters I cared about and this kept me turning pages all the way through the book. A very enjoyable read!
The story moves along at a good pace. It is believable and the characters are well defined. By the end of the novel I was cheering for Shannon. Calin handles the characters well, they are both believable and sympathetic, she does not deal in stereotypes or people who act for no reason. This is quality writing and though it is not the sort of book I would usually read I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.
When do we get the sequel?
