Emma Calin was born in London in 1962. She currently lives in France and the UK.

She has been writing since childhood and has won numerous local, national and international prizes for poetry and short stories, including the East Texas Writers Guild Award in 2017 and the New Apple Award for Ebook Literary Excellence in 2017.

When Police officer Shannon Aguerri takes over the beat as a village constable, it is far from the quiet village live you would expect. There is plenty of crime to keep her busy, and when she meets a young lad called Ben on her beat and this introduces her to his father who happens to be an Earl, her patrol is about to get passion and two completely different worlds are about to collide with an almighty bang!

The story is quite fast paced and it had me gripped from the very beginning. I liked Shannon as a character and found her very likable and there are strong scenes of an adult nature in this book. Which are thrown into the storyline. I say that because they seem to jump out of you just when you are getting into the storyline. They are quite well written but I didn’t personally think they were necessary to the storyline. But if you are into erotica you will like these kinds of scenes and find them sensational.

Love, laughs, passion and a bit of heartbreak

“Chemistry, fermentation, and molecular sugars are too much. Don’t think about it, my lovely. Just drink the wine,” And Shannon’s Law is very much about simply enjoying the moment. The story of a mix-race cop who meets and falls in love with an Earl, there’s crime, romance and some hilarious dialogue.

Admittedly, there’s also a bit of heartbreak: “Why does everything mess up?”
“Well, it all started with snakes and apples and ended up with quantum theory, causality and determinism,” he said. “’ You’re a smug highbrow snob,” she said. “Mainly I’m completely uninformed.”

And some laugh out loud lines: “Why is there a policewoman splattered with gunge in the kitchen? I didn’t know we used this room.”

While some of the dialogue got a bit nauseating it was so darn sweet, I did find myself giggling and well, that’s the point, isn’t it? To enjoy the moment. And in this case, the moment is a lovely little town striving to maintain its ties to the past while there is modern-day crime taking place around it. The blossoming romance is great fun. The ‘dirty talk’ got a bit much for me (see the sweet comment above), and while the euphemisms were over the top, I did enjoy the story. The author could have stood to complete a final line edit to clean up the remaining issues and it did detract at times (since I read an earlier edition, some of this may have been cleaned up), but I couldn’t come down too hard as I was too busy giggling. Significantly enough that housemates were giving me looks. If you are looking for a story to escape from a hard day, then Shannon's Law is for you. Thanks again for writing the story.

I bought a copy of Shannon's law for my sister, who sat and read it in one sitting. She was so enthusiastic about the book that I had to read it myself to see what all the fuss was. I am glad I did.

The story moves along at a good pace. It is believable and the characters are well defined. By the end of the novel I was cheering for Shannon. Calin handles the characters well, they are both believable and sympathetic, she does not deal in stereotypes or people who act for no reason. This is quality writing and though it is not the sort of book I would usually read I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I loved it, from start to finish I was captivated, a mix of everything and if you like action, romance a bit of spice and a bit of a mystery, then you must get this book. This was my first Emma Calin novel it won't be my last.

Shannon Aguerri is a policewoman with special qualities. She’s witty, yet humble, fair and compassionate, courageous, and determined. But she’s a bit of a wild card and the old guard find her a handful. Posted to a small town to cool her heels, she meets the Earl of Bloxington.
Sparks fly instantly, and while Shannon realizes the huge difference their stations in life, the Earl seems to disregard this. He is smitten with her. Enter Jasmine, the rich high-classed rival.
As the love affair develops, author Emma Calin keeps the reader intrigued with its ups and downs while at the same time developing a police story that at times plays out in the foreground and other times in the background.
I was pulled into the story not only by the events, but by the characters and their relationships. The author created characters I cared about and this kept me turning pages all the way through the book. A very enjoyable read!
