Review

"This 'end of days' scenario is a wild amalgam of Christianity, vampire lore, world myth, functional morality, street philosophy and hot sex. Three double page line drawings...perfectly illustrate Banks's over the top supernatural characters and scenes."--"Publishers Weekly" on "The Cursed"

"A splendid tale that brings together action suspense, mystery, mind-blowing battle scenes and love scenes."--"Urban Reviews" on "The Cursed"

"Superior vampire fiction.""---Booklist "on" The Forbidden"

Praise for The Shadows: "Banks has consistently gone to her creative blood bank to bring a series that offers celestial hierarchy, world myth, the realms of hell, vampire lore, human morality and a hip street philosophy. Readers will be suspended as the battle becomes epic. After eleven books the series is still ingenious, inventive, unrelenting, multi-dimensional, AND much more than a tale of vampirism." --Rawsistaz Literary Group "Banks' latest starts off with a bang. Watch out for paper cuts -- you'll be turning the pages at a rapid pace to see who will win. This is just like every book in this amazing series -- powerful, intense and compelling. There's just one more book in this series, so pick a side -- light or dark." --"Romantic Times BOOKreviews (4 1/2 stars)"

This is the 12th book in the VHL series and my least favorite so far. I'm use to the guardian team functioning more as a family unit or the story revolving around key members of the team and the others play a strong supportive role. It seemed in this book that the team did not function well together at all nor was their a main story about any of the Guardians. There is always a conflict that is trying to unglue them and they always overcome to work better as a team. The team seemed to overcome the obsticle (poison sound waves/music) but they never could get their previous team spirit back. I also missed the hot sex/love scenes. I guess if it is the end of the world I should not expect the Guardians or the Netrus to be thiking about sex too much. I'm just use to no matter what the team members find time to show each other some hot love. The Netru's gave one hot scene and Val and Yonnie gave us one. It just wasn't enough for me.

I do like the fact that other Guardians teams and characters were introduced and I also like how Carlos kicked Dracula's butt! I also like how the light tricked the Unnamed in to thinking the team pregancies were frauds.

This book was well written and may be mama banks wanted us to focus on some thing other than the hot sex. She may be setting us up for the big finish. With this being said, I can't wait until book 13. There are so many questions and new births to take place...

5.0 out of 5 stars High Praise for 'The Shadows' 15 Aug. 2008
By Lisa Lanausse - Published on Amazon.com

The Guardian team is on the move again, doing what they do best. Only this time, the game has changed and expanded to include one particular bad guy that fans of the series have been whispering and wondering about.
There's a little more at stake this time: the team itself is expanding and about to produce new fruit, while a beloved member of the Guardian team is lost.
He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named is hard at work creating chaos with Lilith and the rest of the Vampire Council. The action scenes are off the chain, as usual. What else can you expect with the Armageddon at hand? More seals are broken and all hell is breaking loose--literally.
I'm being deliberately vague. Nothing I say here even compares to the breath-holding, page-turning drama that unfolds in this book. Mama Banks outdoes herself yet again in this prequel to the last book in the series. I'll be sorry to see it end, but know that there's more in store for this fantastic author and ALL of her work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best, but needed 16 July 2008

I love the VHL series, but I have to admit... this one was a little shaky. The Shadows suffers from being the bane of any good story - the set up for the finale. Yes, we are treated to several action sequences, but the ending is very abrupt, a giant neon "To Be Concluded..." sign in the dark.

My one complaint, other than the fact this is a setup book for Book 12, is she has a little too much of the back and forth "meanwhile, in hell... meanwhile, with the crew..."; enough to make one a little dizzy.

All in all, a good book in the series, but not one that can truthfully stand by itself. Left me wanting for a LOT more - hopefully, Book 12 won't be delayed too much by the new werewolf series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book 11 is another Hit I cannot wait to read book 12 23 July 2008

Book 11 adds another layer to the hit Vampire Huntress series. This Chapter bring us one step closer to final battle between the forces of Light and Darkness. The Dark side is out for blood and they are holding nothing back as they seek revenge on Damali and Carlos and all the forces of Good.
Heavy losses will mount on both sides but who will come out with the upper hand as Armageddon approaches.
This book is a must read and great addition to any VHL series fan collection.
Also a great read for the casual reader. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!
