i have read all of Dianne Duvall's Immortal guardian's series and have enjoyed them all. surprisingly this to me was one of the best so far.more so as in previous books the hero has never been a stand out character for me.it was full of all the good stuff with lots of action, romance, a great plot, and likeable characters. i will say that this SHOULD NOT be read as a stand alone book as there is a continuation of the series story arc throughout. that being said, i would still recommend reading the series in its entirety as they are great reads with a refreshing spin on your typical vampire portrayal.
in case people do not know, the anthology'ON THE HUNT' features Yuri's story 'Phantom Embrace' a character featured in the series.
series order:
1. Darkness Dawns (2011)
2. Night Reigns (2011)
3. Phantom Shadows (2012)
3.5. In Still Darkness (2014, featured in the anthology Predatory)
4. Darkness Rises (2013)
5. Night Unbound (2014)
5.5 Phantom Embrace (2015, featured in the anthology On The Hunt)
6. Shadows Strike (2015)

Shadows Strike,  Dianne Duvall
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre:  Romance,Sci-fi and Fantasy
I’ve not read all the books in this series, but several and understand the world Dianne has created. I think you need to read a least the first in this series to understand and enjoy the story even though each book is a complete one, as the overall story arc and the individual characters pay such a strong place in the stories. I’m always intending to go back and read the ones I’ve missed but its that old shortage of time and cash that’s stopped me so far. So many great books and so little time...
Once again its a solid read, a perfect romance with tension and sensuality, lots of action and the overall story arc of Guardians, Others and Vampires all having different ideas about interacting with the human world. For some time the guardians have been fighting vampires, trying to keep the humans safe, and in the dark about supernatural matters. There’s a force out to provoke war though, and its getting stronger all the time. They need to keep up if the world is to stay safe, but in the last big battle they lost some key members, both Guardians and the humans who work with them. Now it looks like the battle is on once again and a human telepath, Heather, seems to be in the middle of it, but the Guardians need to know why.
I loved the interaction between Heather and Ethan. That insta love kind of thing sometimes just isn’t believable, but here Heather has been dreaming of Ethan for so long that she feels she already knows him. Throw in the very real danger she’s in and its easy to understand her live for the day motto when she finds him. Ethan has been very lonely and finding Heather, finding a connection with her that's bone deep is a real bonus for him.

So imagine that you have been having very disturbing dreams about what appears to be vampires and in particular one very brave warrior. Unfortunately that warrior always dies in Heathers dreams but now she has located the exact spot where all the mayhem goes down and morbid curiosity sees her waiting there but for what she isn't sure. Are Heathers dreams crazy or prophetic? Well apparently something strange is happening because yep fanged creatures appear and so does the warrior but this time he survives the fight and oh boy is Heather confused!
Ethan is an Immortal warrior battling to save humanity from vampires and cannot quite believe it when a young woman not only helps him battle fearsome vampires but appears to have spent the past year dreaming of him! Hey he's happily onboard to be her dreamboat but when he realises that Heather is a "gifted one" it's clear there's something else going on here and time to take Heather to meet his fellow Guardians. Heather feels safe with Ethan but she isn't too sure about the secret group he is part of but time is not on their side and Heather is about to be thrust into a dangerous war where not even the military can save her. Armageddon is coming their way!
This book had it all from action to romance and even more information about the elusive Seth! Fans of this series will enjoy this instalment as there is so much going on and never a dull moment. Hey the gangs all here and it's great to see favourite characters all work together in battle but there's also more playful moments to enjoy. Ethan is sweet and protective but I loved his reactions when Heather showed just how kick ass she can be! A brave heroine, a delicious hero and so many surprises. Yes it's fair to say I really enjoyed this one and can't wait to read more

Shadows Strike is the sixth book in the Immortal Guardians series and, although it can be read as a standalone, to fully appreciate the world that Dianne Duvall has created, I would recommend reading the series in order.

Heather is a law enforcement agent with telepathic abilities, for the past year she has been having a recurring dream of a man fighting vampires. Ethan, as well as being the star in Heathers dream, is an Immortal Guardian battling against vampires to save humanity. Using the details from her dream, Heather tracks down Ethan and saves him from attacking vampires. Discovering that Heather is gifted, Ethan and his fellow Immortal Guardians must discover the role Heather is to play in their ongoing battle against evil.

Shadows Strike was a very enjoyable paranormal read. It was action packed, with a great story and a sensual and sexy romance. Ethan and Heather were very likeable characters, their romance was believable and I was routing for their HEA. As well as catching up with characters from previous books in the series, new characters are also introduced and I am looking forward to learning more about them.

Shadows Strike is a great addition to the Immortal Guardians series and I am eagerly awaiting the next instalment. I highly recommend this series to paranormal romance lovers.
