I don't know what happened. Maybe it was the tell-y narrative or the repetitive info-dumping. Maybe it was the lack of development as far as the characters and the plot went. All I know is there was this sudden mention of Sara (another main character) having some Ilduin blood and knowing some spells (came out of nowhere) and the thought that perhaps Tess was one. And as the story continued, Sara and Tess were suddenly able to sense each other and some unspeakable evil.
Archer could have become a cool character too, with his secret past, but noble personage and knowledge of all the "creation stories." But things just got kind of confusing and thrown in there with no apparent connection or purpose.
The dialogue was awkward, and I was always confused as to why the Anari, the people who are supposed to have been created as a pacifistic people group, would be fighting with no apparent compunctions until the very end when they slaughter dozens of people by Archer's side.
And the randomness of the obstacles they face.... I don't know. They felt like they were just thrown in there to move things along. There was just a lack of fluidity and connectedness.
If you're looking for even an entertaining read, this is not really it. If you're looking for romantic fantasy, this is not it. The romance was hardly there at all. If you enjoy good literature, or at least a well-told story, go elsewhere. I hate writing negative reviews, but there are mostly positive reviews on here. And this just really doesn't deserve it.
