Being quite a big fan of the Metalcore genre as a whole and a big fan of As i lay dying's earlier attempts i was pleased to see that As i lay dying had a new album coming out, and to be fair was'nt that surprised at the sounds that came out of my speakers when i put the CD in, it sounded like most of the As i lay dying material. But despite that the samey samey kinda sound the album is frickin wicked the reason for giving this album 4 and not 5 was mainly due to them not being very original with there sound although it does seem that they will make even greater songs in the future. One fact that remains the same with As i lay dying is that these guys can make one hell of a breakdown, now these breakdowns really do separate the men from the boys sure they're on every song but you just cant wait to hear them especially when you have it on ur discman the track Reflection just blew me away wen i had it on my discman wen the breakdown kicked in i was close to orgasm!!!!!
The songs on the album that show there talent to become one of the best metalcore bands in the world really show on Meaning In Tragedy, new single Confined and most surprisingly the tracks Reflection which leads into Repeating Yesterday almost like one track (truly original track). But if you are a big Metalcore fan buy this album without thinking twice about it, it'll be by far your favourite metalcore album for ages.

With the current 'metalcore' explosion the way it is, never has there been a more important time for the US' As I Lay Dying to stake their claim. 2003's "Frail Words Collapse" engendered immense recgonition due, in part, to the smart decision by the band to release first track '94 Hours' on previously-free mp3.com - it generated huge interest in the band, and the album certainly didn't disappoint. "Shadows are Security" thankfully, continues this progress, without majorly changing the swedish-influenced, machine-gun fire metal sound they craft. I was expecting more melodic moments on this album than "Frail Words Collapse" - there aren't, and this makes for a pleasant surprise. Only "Confined" and "Darkest Nights" have a discernable singy chorus. This refusal to compromise to the mainstream is admirable in such a crowded market, and in doing so will probably prevent the band from truly achieving massive recognition, which it seems is just how they like it.
Not the perfect album by any means, but it's just what I expected, and whilst it fails to truly try anything remarkably different it succeeds with its brutal honesty and uncompromising nature.

A really enjoyable metalcore album. Heavy, occasionally melodic and very fast. If you enjoy bands like Unearth, Still Remains et al you will love this. It starts off very aggresively with 'Meaning In Tragedy' with a gut wrenching riff. If you like heavy screaming vocals then this band are for you. The whole album is excellent and not repetetive so I can't really single out any songs.

this is a great album,is it world class, nope, why isnt it world class?just because it isnt anything new,now i like metalcore and if it is to be a dying genre i will be sad but hey i guess it cant go on with 1000 bands sounding the same, regardless this is a great album with yards of melody, galloping pace, great vocals and great musicians so sont be put off,for metalcore its great but i dont expect as i lay dying to headline download anytime soon
