5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read! 15 Aug. 2012
By Beth Webb Hart - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Shadowbosses is an extremely well-crafted, painstakingly researched expose about one of the major forces shaping today's political process: Government Employee Unions. If you have ever wondered just how labor unions work and what impact they have on government employees, politicians and the everyday taxpayer, you must pick up this book. Packed with eye-opening facts, thoughtful insights, drama and unmasking, Mallory Factor has delivered a page-turner that directly effects every citizen's life. As an independent, I found Shadowbosses to be relevant, fascinating and particularly timely as we seek to lift the veil and further understand the forces that are really at work behind the scenes. This one is worth your while!

5.0 out of 5 stars A thorough analysis of a serious problem 22 Aug. 2012
By Cole - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Factor's book is a comprehensive indictment of all-too-powerful public sector unions. He provides enlightening statistics, revealing anecdotes and an insider look at one of the greatest problems facing America today. Around the nation, state governments are insolvent while public sector unions demand ever larger pensions and benefits for the workers they represent. A must read for anyone who cares how their tax dollars are spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Union Bosses Put Themselves First 13 Aug. 2012
By Stan Greer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This thoroughly researched and gripping account of government union abuses vividly shows that hardworking, conscientious public employees, as well as taxpayers and other citizens who depend on schools and other government services, are often victimized by Big Labor.

One especially outrageous example pertains to the Memphis sanitation workers who famously went on strike in 1968. This labor dispute is remembered today largely because Dr. Martin Luther King, a close ally of union officials despite their long history of condoning racial discrimination in employment, was assassinated while he was visiting Memphis is support of the strike. Despite the fact that the assassination was otherwise unconnected to the labor dispute, government union kingpin Jerry Wurf cynically exploited it to get the strike settled on his chosen terms.

While the Memphis strike was going on, union propaganda bemoaned garbage collectors' miserable working conditions. They had to lug leaky tubs with 40 gallons or more of trash in them through people's backyards for low pay. By 1968, technology had already been available for decades to make the santitation workers' jobs less onerous and dangerous, as well as more productive and better compensated.

But it took another 13 years, "until late 1981, for the city of Memphis and the AFSCME Local union to eliminate the back-breaking tubs with the introduction of curbside collection and wheeled garbage bins."

Obviously, improving sanitation workers' lot wasn't government union bosses' goal. Shadowbosses shows what government union chiefs really want is more coercive bargaining power over employees and more political clout.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read! 2 Oct. 2012
By Bernard Chapin - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I had never heard of Mallory Factor before coming across this book. People said so many good things about it last month that I felt the need to read it myself. I wasn't disappointed, not in the least. In 2010, I read a work that compared the actions of Soviet Union era apparatchniks to those of the union leaders here in the United States, and Shadowbosses is a fine conceptual companion piece for that book. Indeed, its far more expansive and thorough.

The theme of the authors is that the union hierarchs (SEIU, NEA, UAW, AFL-CIO, etc) run leftist politicians today--not the other way around. They call the shots and drive the Democrats agenda. Never was this more evident than over the summer when the DNC turned to the unions to make up for the deficits they had in their funding: No unions, no convention. The unions made it happen. Factor wrote this book before that particular event, but hundreds of others are covered in these pages.

Factor illustrates that when politicians don't do what the union wants--as Blanche Lincoln didn't in 2010--the unions back someone else and that candidate loses in the Democratic Party primary...which is precisely what happened to Lincoln. The behaviors of private sector unions are not our collective business, and if they succeed in breaking an industry there is not much we can do about it. The public sector unions are another matter altogether. We, the taxpayers, pay them, and often we pay them far more than we make ourselves. It's a complete scandal.

There is no better statistic in this book than the one revealing that nearly 500,000 federal bureaucrats make over 100k a year in salary. That's outrageous. They're not public servants, but rather, public scammers. There's no reason to overpay them as they steal liberty from us, and any president who was serious about solving the budget crisis would lower the maximum federal wage to $74,000. This would allow all the lawyers and overlords we currently possess in the federocracy to "scratch buy" on a wage that's still far higher than most of us make.

Overall, this book is outstanding. It's erudite and an inspiration. We, the people, are the ones who should run the country...not the Shadowbosses. Let's put some light on them, and free ourselves in the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE BOOK THAT MUST BE MADE INTO A MOVIE FOR THE MASSES! 27 Aug. 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I read this book over the course of an evening and was so delighted to finally see what has been happening to our country over the years in print. THIS IS THE BOOK THAT MUST BE MADE INTO A DOCU/MOVIE SO THE MASSES WHO DON'T READ WILL GET THE MESSAGE. SHADOWBOSSES SHOULD BE MANDATORY READING FOR EVERY STUDENT FROM HIGH SCHOOL THORUGH COLLEGE.

We the people, the taxpayers of this country need to take a stand and stop the mandatory withholding of union dues and the electronic transfer of them in to the union coffers. Let the Union Stewards try and collect the dues on a weekly basis. They would be like rooming bookies with visors and notepads tying to keep the accounting straight; weekly deficient would be astounding! I would love to see that!

Hopefully there is a big prison in the great beyond for all the tainted politicians and the Shadowbosses because none would ever be jailed here on earth.

Great book and I recommend it 100%.
