Professor Brown proves to be even more laconic/hermetic/dreary than one might have feared.
He does manage to re-date Las Meninas, claiming it had to have been dashed off in 1660 to allow for the artist to have already been knighted. What kind of post-career joke is this?
His account of his parents, who collected Duchamp, Fluxus, etc., would have been interesting if Brown had been willing to develop it.
His good fight to establish the field for the study of the Golden Age of Spain, and later of Hispanic American painting is touched on, but without much flair.
As to his being in the shadow of the master, that's where he remains, shadowy, stuffy, unforthcoming...
