Shadow People is a clever improvement on the vast sea of found footage dross that seems to be so 'de rigeur' these days. The fundamental selling point of the genre is inducing fright by virtue of being believable; by effectively blurring the line between fact and fiction. Rather than the staple formula 'three people went into a forest/haunted house/cavern, and all that was found was this footage' the director exceeds in making the offering so utterly credible - to the point of crediting alleged experiments, documentary 'The Shot Heard Round the Web' and its research team. Instead of the first-person handheld shaky-cam footage, here we have the acted dramatisation spliced in with 'footage' of the real people.

Quick synopsis as follows, the shadow people are allegedly responsible for a spate of sudden unexplained deaths (SUNDS), which can be traced back to South East Asia in the 70s. A professor in the US undertook a research experiment where all the participants died inexplicably, the footage was never found. Back to present day late-nite radio talkshow host (played excellently by Dallas Roberts) receives a distressed caller who claims to be seeing the shadow people.

After seeing the trailer and reading the synopsis I thought this was going to be an excellent film; which is to some extent. It's apparent the director has gone to great pains to make Shadow People an immersive story; the acting is all excellent throughout (the character dynamics are done really well, not least the DJ's son and estranged wife); also clear is the level of research and thought that has gone into it - the government health agent, for instance.

This is an interesting film about SUNDS, Sudden Unexplained Death Syndrome. A Baton Rogue (or there about) night time talk show host, Charlie Crow (Dallas Roberts) has a call-in guest who dies from SUNDS having predicted his death on air. He blames the "Shadow People" who come for him. Alison Eastwood (Clint's daughter) is called in from the CDC to investigate.

The film incorporates "actual footage" of the real host "Charlie Camfield" and various news feeds. The people in these "actual films" are different than the actors portraying them in order to give the film a sense of realism. I believe they are uncredited actors as the film also includes police interrogation films as well as people/news casters who do not exist in the world of Google.

Dallas Roberts did a good job, but the script was bland. Your villain is "shadow people" who only come if you imagine them. This is not a documentary about the syndrome. The scare factor doesn't exist... until you go to sleep. A well done interesting film that goes nowhere.

Actual studies are interesting as it appears people suffer heart fibrillation while sleeping. Younger males are most susceptible with epilepsy, stress (from relocation) and perhaps diet prior to bedtime (carbs) being linked as contributing factors.

Parental Guide: 1 f-bomb, brief rear nudity

This is a great paranormal/horror film. apparantely loosely based on true events, the film links a spate of sudden deaths in the 1970's to the Shadow People.
The main character charlie a late night chat show host becomes embroiled in a conspiracy involving these strange entities. Both entertaining and creepy. Just don't think about the shadow people and you'll be fine.

The film is about a Radio Host who starts to investigate 'Shadow People' after a past caller died in his sleep. I thought the film was watchable but it was extremely slow paced and boring. The jump scares were very lame and predictable but for a '12' age rating what do you expect? Also the trailer and cover were misleading as you expect 'scary faces' to pop up during the film but nothing only a few brief shadows on the walls and running past the camera. Overall, I'll give it a miss and buy a decent horror film with a higher age rating!

A creepy film that made the hair on my neck stand on end! My only problem is that if you believe it, they're gonna get you, so obviously I don't believe it cos I'm still alive! Good film though, I did like it.

Good film overall. Give it a chance to warm up though. Enjoyable plot and worth a watch if you want to avoid gore but still have a scare.
