The connections traced between rampant masculinity, misogyny, carnivorism, and militarism operate as powerfully today as when Carol Adams first diagnosed them twenty years ago. --J. M. Coetzee
About the Author
Carol J. Adams is an activist and author of The Pornography of Meat, Living Among Meat Eaters, and many other books challenging a sexist, meat-eating world. She is a sought-after speaker throughout North America and Europe, and has been invited to more than a hundred campuses to show "The Sexual Politics of Meat Slide Show," which is always being updated to include contemporary cultural representations.
Top customer reviews
At a more academic level, I think Carol Adams's decision to write what she did when she did and then publish it when she was ready, along side the information she provides, supported by men and women from all era's, book references, quotes, images; the whole kit and kaboodle of a thoroughly researched, and personal story of observation, empathy and emotion. I love Absent Referent, I use it all the time, and now I know it has a 'term', thank you, thank you so much.
Eleanor Cowan, author of : A History of a Pedophile's Wife: Memoir of a Canadian Teacher and Writer
A vegetarian literature classic worth reading but be prepared to force yourself through some of the chapters (unless you are quite artsy and enjoy a bit of chaos in literature)...
