I bought this book to help me with a brand new Janome serger/overlocker. Being a very experienced sewing machinist, but totally new to the art of overlocking, I found the machine daunting and the handbook that came with the machine inadequate. This little book by Gail and Pati has been amazing, giving me all the information I needed in a very straightforward way. It moved me from feeling that maybe the machine was a big mistake, to wondering how I managed without it, and all this was in a few days and only a few hours of practice. The book gives enough examples of what the machine will do to show it's potential. Well done Gail and Pati!

As someone who is an experienced home sewing machinist and now the owner of a Husqvarna overlocker I too found the manufacturer's book nothing short of useless.

So I find this little book and almost all my questions have been answered in one place, simply and clearly. Nothing frivolous about this book - don't expect a "glossy" but it has to be one of the best serger reference books on the market. You probably can't find a more comprehensive book anywhere

The majority of handbooks that come with machines, are very vague when it comes to actually producing something with your overlocker. That is especially so when it comes to things like sewing techniques and dealing with problem areas such as trying to cope with setting up multiple thread tensions correctly. Unlike conventional sewing machines an overlocker can have up to five seperate threads to tension and just a slight adjustment to one can have profound effects on the others.

For a newcomer like myself I needed an easy to use guide to unlock this 'air of mystery'. This handy little reference book is absolutely great for filling in those missing gaps. Its writing style is very easy to understand and the book is full of clear and useful drawings to explain the processes of setting up your machine correctly. If you are looking for a good source of reference and easy to understand practical help in getting good results from your machine, then this is a great little book to have around.

I purchased this book, hoping for some detailed 'how to' instructions, because my overlocker manual is very basic.

Although this is a very slim, pocket sized book, it could be at least half as slim again if all of he waffle and surplus exclamations were removed. The writing style is quite absurd - it reads as though a conversation between a pair of overexcited, late night shopping channel presenters has been transcribed and dumped verbatim into a document file.

Some of the simple line drawings and elementary descriptions of the overlocker functions were helpful to me in the early days as I battled to master my new machine. However, I simply cannot bear the thought of reading through the chatsy drivel a second time, and so will be passing the book onto the charity shop and looking for a more coherent and comprehensive text to help me advance my serging skills.

I would call this a large pamphlet rather than a book as its about the size of a Mills and Boon novella. Should have read the description more carefully as it is certainly hand sized. Very cheap and nasty paper, like a budget novel. Also, as it was first printed almost 30 years ago the projects are all very dated. Will probably not bother to use it and will buy another instruction book taking more time to read the description first.
