Review

"Sewing enthusiasts who are looking to bring new energy to their sewing and crafting will find "Sew Wild" a great resource for fabric techniques and designs that explode with color, pattern, and excitement." - Linda Lanese, CraftGossip.com Felting Editor"Just when I think I've come across every way you can stitch or every surface you can stitch on, Alisa comes up with more...There are so many learning opportunities in "Sew Wild," it's like going on a mixed-media stitch retreat without the time and expense of travel!" - Pokey Bolton, editorial director, "Quilting Arts""She truly uses her sewing machine with artistic abandon. She customizes plain fabric with paint, simple printmaking, and machine embroidery, then sews them together in a style that evokes collage and graffiti for a uniquely layered look." - Tricia Waddell, editor, "Stitch Magazine""I love the way she encourages novice and more experienced sewers to let loose and explore, rather than be intimidated by rules and patterns." - Cate Prato, editor, ClothPaperScissors.com"The perfect book to help you find ways to use those bits of fabric scraps that tend to pile up more and more with every sewing project." - "The Detroit News""I have been inspired to sew again! I owe it all to Alisa Burke and her fabulous new book, "Sew Wild."" - Linda Woods, author of "Journal Revolution"""Sew Wild" is a visual and creative treat. Her style is artistic, but with an urban edge. Her projects are vibrant, raw, and utterly fabulous." - Anne Weaver, CraftGossip.com Sewing Editor"I'm enthralled with her process. Being a quilter, I typically hide my top-stitching by using a matching thread, but Alisa's bold designs are truly embellished by her wide range of free-motion stitches. Alisa's artistic process means these projects are like nothing you've seen elsewhere." - CraftBuds.com"I absolutely love this book! When a book can get me to drop everything and try a technique or make something - that's a keeper." - "Bloom, Bake, Create" blog""Sew Wild: Creating with Stitch and Mixed Media" by Alisa Burke is a visual and creative treat. Her style is artistic, but with an urban edge. Her projects are vibrant, raw, and utterly fabulous." - CraftGossip.Com Sewing Site"I've gone wild! Well, maybe unrestrained might be a better word to describe my stitching style for the past couple of days." - SewLoquacious.blogspot.com"She is really going out-of-the-box and coming up with the most delightful designs to inspire us. Everything she shows us, on her DVD, is made with simple supplies that are inexpensive and everything is extremely achievable." - CraftGossip.com Felting site

Put machine stitching and contemporary together and you get Sew wild. Creating stitch with mixed media techniques, the author shows you how to print your own fabric in several different ways, then shows you how to stitch to create a unique look. Some of the projects and techniques look a bit messy for my taste and far too much black stitching but there are plenty of good ideas in this book for the younger end of the market. I recently discovered Alisa's blog and I couldn't wait to get my hand on her book, and it didn't disappoint, the is well laid out, the techniques explained in great level of details and most important her projects are based on things you are likely to have around the house or that you can make yourself. The added bonus of the DVD for those to whom pictures are not enough is great.

She encourages the reader to have a go and have fun and certainly she creates that buzz. If you can use a sewing machine (you don't have to be a seamstress) and doodle some shapes you can use the book to create a range of prints you can use for your projects. This book will be a source of inspiration.

This book has a refreshing new look. All the techniques and projects look do-able even for beginners. Sometimes our beautiful books by wonderful artists make me feel as though I'm still doing exams and will be judged wanting. Here there's energy and dash and freshness I was a little put off by the zigzag edge finish on the wearables but loved the book covers and other ideas, especially the samples book.

A good book for a fresh approach

Wow! This is the best craft book I've bought this year. It arrived today and I've already read the whole thing.
It's just so simple and clear and encouraging. I love that you probably have the stuff already to get started because the author doesn't recommend special materials. Really can't wait till I have time to play.

I was disappointed with the publishers that I could not peruse pages prior to ordering.

When the book arrived, a quick flip through told me that it was not for me......the illustrations were colourful, but the work was shoddy, looked unfinished and not fit for purpose, in my opinion. Many projects looked as if they had just come through a severe battering at a jumble sale. There seemed no real skill displayed in the preparation of materials, nor the execution of the products. Far more exciting and accomplished work can be found in many, many other books. If you are looking for fun, you may find it in here, if you are looking for quality, search elsewhere.

Great little book with a short, useful DVD. Some funky sewing projects and good, practical free style embroidery hints. I like the authors relaxed way of having fun with sewing and not being scared of making mistakes. I agree a little with some others reviewers that there are a few too many raw edged projects, but I feel this is the authors personal style. Well worth buying.

I love this book! I came across this book at the school where I work as a Textiles Technician. It is very appealing and inspiring to the younger student. Yes, maybe there are rather unconventional techniques which may be a bit 'jarring' to professional seamstresses but from the design point of view it is fabulous. The colours Alisia uses are so vibrant and I love the way she incorporates scrap fabric in her designs. Great for encouraging recycling and discouraging waste. I can't wait to get started on the projects. Ideal for capturing a younger persons imagination!
