5.0 out of 5 stars Think you don't need this one? Think again! Excellent basics that are stylish and fit well along with great instructions! 1 Feb. 2015
By Jane Wilkes - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I have sooo many books and patterns for doll clothes that I really hesitated about this purchase. After all, it seems to be geared to beginners and I've been sewing 40 years! I'm so glad I didn't let that stop me. This is an excellent book. Most of the garments are basic shapes, that's true. They are up to date basics, though, including things like yoga pants and trendy purses that girls are sure to love. I have made the mini skirt and the cuffed shorts so far and they were both great! Fit the current American Girl brand dolls very well and construction was easy. In my opinion the mix of choices is excellent, too. There's a wide range here! On top of all of that? If you are a beginner, or wanting to encourage a young girl to learn to sew? Erin's tips are wonderful. Instructions are clear, she defines lots of sewing terms that a beginner would not be familiar with! Are you on the fence? Here's another point I loved: The pattern pieces are printed on one side of decent weight paper. They fit in a slip in pocket in the back of the book. I photocopied what I wanted, to keep my original sheets clean, but you could certainly cut these out if you wish. To me, this is preferable to flimsy pattern paper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide to sewing doll clothes 29 July 2014
By Lindsay C - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
When I was a young girl, this is the type of book I would have gone crazy for. It's perfect for young crafters who are curious about sewing, but who want a range of really cool, stylish projects! With patterns included, this book teaches the basics while still engaging those who know how to sew but want to take their skills to the next level.

3.0 out of 5 stars The patterns are easy to use and the directions are easy to follow ... 6 Dec. 2015
By DonnaGee - Published on Amazon.com

The patterns are easy to use and the directions are easy to follow for beginners. I would prefer techniques that look more "finished", but I'm sure they have simplified the process for young sewers, so I can overlook that. So far I've made only two different tops and the miniskirt. The real problem that I have is that NOTHING I've made from this book fits my Pleasant Company American Girl doll. Even after adding 1/4" to the center back pattern pieces, the clothes are all much too tight to meet in back. Yes, I'm careful to use a 1/4" seam allowance. I've read on the internet that the newer, Mattel-made dolls are thinner, so maybe this book is designed for them. I was impressed with this book until I actually made the clothes and discovered that they don't fit. Just keep in mind that if you have an older, Pleasant Company doll, these patterns may not work for you. Otherwise, I would be very happy with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book with Full sized patterns and easy Directions for beginners to understand.! 7 Aug. 2015

I'm getting things ready to teach My grand daughters 6 and 8 to sew. I bought this book for the patterns! This book Is SO much More! It has all the information to learn to sew in a simple style that children can understand, with lots of pictures! This book is going to help me teach them. The patterns are nice also. They are rated so that I can start with the simple patterns and advance with My granddaughter as they get better. The patterns are simple and easy to use. The book comes with FULL sized patterns. I think that is important to teach the girls this part of sewing also.Love the BOOK... glad I chose this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sew in style make your own doll clothes 26 May 2014
By abcdef - Published on Amazon.com

While I haven't actually made any clothes yet, just reading thought this book and am anxious to start. The pattern pieces are in the back of the book and can be cut out as they are printed on one side. That is a plus. The construction is listed in steps, not all run together. My seven year old niece looked through the book and decided she would love everything. I am sure that means my granddaughter will too. My granddaughter will be helping me make the clothes for her doll.
