I have been sewing for many years and so didn't think I would need much of the advice in this book: however, there are some really great tips that range from - how to mix prints in the same garment, making bias tape and using it to enclose hems (this makes a really pretty, professional finish to hems and armholes), and basic machine applique. The dress, trouser/shorts, jacket and other patterns are well done, with clear instructions and photographs. Whether the print fabric is to your taste or not, the results are cute but not in an old fashioned way. I particularly like the section at the end on how to embellish a t-shirt to make a cute 'bib' front, making a fabric covered button headband, embellishing a t-shirt with a ruffle, and a few pages of additional design ideas for each of the patterns, in case you need some help to fire your imagination.
Having the CD patterns is very helpful and they print out very well on the computer here. A lovely addition to the library of sewing fans.

I had been wanting this book for a while and was not disappointed! So far I have made the A-Line dress and it has come out beautifully (will try and add a link to a photograph). Lovely ideas and guidance on what to do, and the stunning photographs make you desperate to make it yourself! Lindsay has a facebook group set up to provide support and help with the patterns in this book, and gives a personal response when she checks it about once a day! So many combinations are possible using the patterns in here so go ahead and see what you can do!!!!

I absolutely adore this book. I am a beginner sewing machine user and wanted to learn how to make clothes for my daughter. This book could not be better written, the designs are beautiful, the instructions are perfect, the patterns easy to follow. I would highly recommend this book to any beginner trying to make clothing.

I pre-order this book after sewing a couple of the Cottage Mama patterns - I was so happy when I got the book earlier in December. I was specially capture by Lindsay's attention to details and her unique fabric combinations - she's truly a master in mixing notions, prints and trims. I love sewing for my daughter (currently I sew most of her wardrobe and blog about it) and although my sewing style is a bit different from Lindsay's I love the fact that her designs are so perfect and can be adapted to several sewing styles. The book has very comprehensive information and each pattern includes information for customization - Lindsay loves and has a great eye for adding embellishments to a pattern, although you could always skip that step if that's not really your style and still achieve a great outcome. Having sewed several of the Cottage Mama to date I already have a few patterns I need/want to try from this book - you could really get a lot from the patterns included and, in my opinion, this book is truly a useful book for any seamstress library (and one that I know I'll be using a lot).
