The Medisana Medinose is the original best selling Hayfever and Anti-allergy device using Phototherapy which is a new type of treatment without drugs. Diodes which are capable of emmiting red light with a wavelength of 660 nanometers are inserted into the nostrils for a 4 and a half minute treatment. Alleviation of allergic symptoms and lessenming of the over-sensitivity of the nasal mucousa sets in at this wavelength. Illnesses caused by allergies such as hayfever and allergic reactions to house dust and animal hair have almost doubled in the last few years. It is not medically clear why more and more people are suffering from allergic symptoms. Exaggerated hygiene in childhood may hamper the developement of the immune system and favour allergies. It is certain, however, that along with heredity increased environmental pollution plays a significant role in the developement of allergies.Hay fever, otherwise known as allergic rhinitis, is not actually a fever and does not necessarily have anything to do with hay. It is not caused by a virus but by pollen. Hay fever should always be taken seriously. The allergy can spread to the lower respiratory passages, leading to chronic disorders and finally to asthma. Your doctor can provide you with a diagnosis and the correct individual advice for you. It is our immune system's job to fend off and render harmless any contaminants that invade our bodies. in the case of an allergy, the immune system over-reacts to these contaminants. Even the tiniest amounts of allergens, such as flower pollen for example, are enough to induce the typical hayfever symptoms: Agonising desire to sneeze, combined with violent sneezing attacks, Swollen, itchy nasal mucosa, Itchy, watery swollen eyes. The reason for this is an over-reaction of our defense mechanism. As soon as the flower pollen touches the mucous membranes of the nose and eyes, the body mobilises all its defences. Too many antibodies are created. These sit on the so-called mast cells. The mast cells in turn release Messenger substances (primarily histamine) that lead to the typical miseries of hayfever. Of course, the easiest way of preventing an allergy is to consistently avoid all substances that trigger allergies. However, in practice this is hardly possible as one can come across allergens not only outside but also at home (due to house dust or animal hair) or in foodstuffs. In addition to drug treatment using antihistamines and cortisone, inoculations and acupuncture, phototherapy is also sucessfully used. In this case red light rays of one wavelength (approx. 660 nanometers) are generated by special light-emitting diodes to reduce or to eliminate the allergic symptoms and the over-sensitivity. Phototherapy is a totally drug-free treatment making it safe for children and pregnant women to use as well the general population. The treatment has no effect on other organs or body parts due to its use locally. The typical symptoms of hayfever were significantly reduced in clinical tests using the Medinose. Some symptoms were alleviated or even eliminated completely in a matter of only a few hours. In the majority of cases it was possible to indentify a clear improvement of the condition within 2 weeks of consistent daily treatment up to 3 times a day. For the first two weeks it is recommended to use the device 3 times a day, once in the morning, once in the afternoon and once in the evening. You can also use it at other times if you feel an allergic attack coming on. After 2 weeks of use in this way, many people found they could cut down the treatment to once a day or as required.
