I enjoyed this book as it brought many memories back to me.Although I lived in a different area I too recall Surrey street market Grant department store also Kennards and Allders too.I lived in Beulah grove with the bath house and laundry at the top of the road, later the Glouster pub was rebuilt and Queens road cemetery at the bottom end of the road. The ABC 'pictures ' was a Saturday morning treat for me too.

Very enjoyable!

Coming from Croydon and still living there, i found this trip down memory lane taking me back to my own childhood, which was about the same time. The steam trains, trolly busses and the smoke and soot are still fresh in my memory!
O to return to those simple day's again........Thank you Allie.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book about Croydon in the '50's - 60's. I felt a great affinity to all of the places mentioned in the book. My grandfather and my dad were born in Harrison's Rise just off the Waddon Road...dad even went to Kingsley School! Reading the book was like stepping back in time, it brought back so many happy memories. Well done and thank you, Allie Sommerville!!
