I found this book a great start. In summary (for people like me who have to test a web API in a blinding hurry), install SOAP UI. Into the 'create' drop-down, enter the WSDL address and then enter the pay-load. Test the variables and you're off the hook. Otherwise - it covers a great many areas which make it suitable for holiday reading or a long-haul flight.
The only reason it's 4 star is because sometimes I'm googling things I thought I didn't understand - only to find out the book can be a little long-winded/verbose etc without saying something is actually quite simple.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best because there is not much choice 6 Jan. 2014
By Dimitri K - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This is a useful book. It does not cover too much, in spite of its physical size. It is too verbose too. But given that there are no other books, web manual is poor, and the topic is very important, I give it 4 stars. Thanks that it is written- definitely better than nothing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and well written 22 Mar. 2013
By Karel H. - Published on Amazon.com

The book is a very efficient guide to using soapUI. It introduces all the soapUI functions and provides a thorough explanation.

There's also a user guide on soapUI website, but this book is much better organized and easier to understand.

The book is a very good choice both for beginners and those who want to explore soapUI in more detail.

3.0 out of 5 stars Web Services Testing with soapUI 28 Feb. 2014
By Mat - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I received my review copy of Web Services Testing with soapUI a few days ago and I'm pretty much indifferent with this book. On one hand, there isn't a lot of books out there dealing with soapUI, so it's hard to compare it to others on the market. The book is alright-- it covers the basics of installation and configuration as well as conducting some discussion surrounding webservices in general. If you're new to webservices or soapUI, this book could provide some value with you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rated as three out of respect to author - lousy experience. 24 July 2015
By gizmo - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Awful experience. I have never bought a book on a topic where the setup to start the book involves way too complicated setups. I tried the rest section and had to setup a request API key. Page 81, #6, the Places APIs listed are for mobile devices only. You can't locate the "Places API". These developer pages change over time. I bought the book and can't do the REST API section.

Until someone writes a good book for using Soap UI, my suggestion is use Google and YouTube.

I rated this a 3 because I respect the authors intentions and smarts.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid this badly written amateur effort, It is difficult to use and assumes you know JAVA, Apache and other technologies 13 May 2015
By J. Scruggs - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book assumes you are comfortable working in an Apache and MySQL environment. The setup steps for the testing environment are useless otherwise. You will waste hours trying to get it right.

In addition, the entire book is badly disorganized and has more typos and poor language usage than is reasonable. Just because at this time there is no competing book on the subject is not a good reason to throw away money on this terrible work.

Resist the urge to buy; you will most certainly regret the waste of money.
