In the latest Novel of the Elder Races, a queen on the brink of sanity has no one to rely on except the Wyr warrior whose conviction is every bit as strong as his passion . . .

In order to save his friend's life, Wyr sentinel Rune Ainissesthai made a bargain with vampire Queen Carling - without knowing what she would ask from him in return. But when Rune attempts to make good on his debt, he finds a woman on the edge.

Despite the danger, Rune is drawn to the ailing queen and decides to help her find a cure for the serpent's kiss - the vampyric disease that's killing her. So far I have really enjoyed all the books in the Elder Series. Although to me the pairing of this particular couple was unlikely and it worked really well.

The twists and turns as always kept me turning the page and the betrayal came from the least expected party. I loved every part of this book and look forward to the next one in the series.

Another cracking book by Thea Harrison. As with the other two books, could not put them down and just loved the storyline and key characters. Had a numb bum reading this as I just could not put it down from start to finish. Bliss!

I bought the first book in this series on the back of the reviews, and I loved it. So, I then purchased this, expecting the same, especially as I liked Rune in 'Dragon Bound' and thought his story would be good. Unfortunately not. Although when the main characters finally get together, the loves scenes are hot, it doesn't make up for the 'slog' I found the story to be. The whole book focuses on trying to find a cure for Carling, and then the end is rushed and a bit unexplained. A shame as I had very high hopes for this series, and now I probably won't buy the other installments.

In order to save a friend's life, Wyr sentinel Rune Ainissesthai made a pact with Carling Severan - without knowing what she would ask in return. Now the time has come for this First Sentinel to fulfill his obligation. Of course, Dragos, Lord of the Wyr, is not happy, but a magical debt is legally binding. With luck, the former Vampyre Queen would not demand anything from Rune that would take the massive gryphon decades, if not centuries, to accomplish. Yet when Rune appears before Carling, he finds an ailing woman on the edge.

Carling is dying. There comes a time in all vampyres' lives (if something does not kills them first) when they begin to suffer from periodic episodes and their minds drift off. Carling has spent over two hundred years studying the phenomenon, researching for its cause and a possible cure. All in vain. Carling's Power has become erratic and her episodes are increasing in severity and frequency. Most of her followers have fled in fear. Other than a dog and one of her youngest progenies, Carling is alone on her island.

Though Carling tosses away the debt Runes owes and releases him from their bargain, Rune simply cannot bring himself to leave. Regardless of the risk, Rune decides to help Carling find a cure for whatever the disease is that is killing her. Rune is very attracted to the dangerous vampyre. To be honest, Rune likes her penchant for violence. He finds is exciting. And even a handsome, immortal shifter can never be conceited while Carling is around.

Rune brings the talented pathologist, Dr. Seremela Telemar, in for a private consultation. Seremela is of the Medusa race and often has a unique perspective on her cases. Rune is not the only one pulling strings. The Djinn, Khalil, still owes Carling two more favors.

Following on from the events in book 2 "Storm's Heart", Gryphon wyr Rune is called on to deliver the favour he owes vampyre sorceress Carling Severan. It's no surprise that he is attracted to her (remember his reaction to her in book 2?) and he's delighted to discover that Carling is equally attracted to him. He knows that establishing a mating bond between them isn't a good idea; particularly when Carling reveals she is dying, but Rune's love for Carling and his determination to find a cure to save her life may just mean he'll have to change the very course of history.

I enjoyed the developing relationship between Rune and Carling; particularly the latter who hasn't felt attraction to anyone in centuries and doesn't know how to deal with her feelings for Rune. The story line is intriguing with some very surprising moments, plus of course some that will tug at your heartstrings as things start to look bleak for Carling's survival. This is another great addition to this series and a must have for fans of fantasy romance.

Amazingly awesome! I don't really like hyperbole, but today I use the word awesome as in `the universe is awesome'. This book was a brilliant read. Fast paced, great character development, and a detailed and complicated narrative which was written exceptionally well; so easy to follow, but you saw the intricacy of it. I loved it. It had me gripped from the very start. I read it over a few days (I usually like to read books in one go) but did not lose interest. The whole concept of Elder Races is impressive and Thea Harrison has her mythos structured and planned, it shows, if there is any holes I haven't seen them. This is the third book in the series and the previous two are also great reads. However, this book just absorbed me, and I just loved the two protagonists. Anyway, some times books later in series' don't always stand up to scrutiny, this one dose. The synopsis of the story on the Kindle edition is adequate to illustrate the plot. I just wanted to express just how well written it is. Read and enjoy.

I've just read one of the reveiwer of this book saying she was disappointed with this book and won't be getting any more in this series which is a shame though I do agree with her review. It took me forever to finish reading this book. I really liked Rune in Dragon BOund and felt really sad how it ended with him and Dragos at the end to the book but I am sure when Ms Harrison goes back to Dragos in her5th book 'Lord Falls' she will hopefully give us a better ending for Rune and Dragos . I got quite confused in regarding the time travel idea in this book. I can't get my head round it. Actions and consequences and the reference to' the cat in the closed box with poison' just lost me. But I kept reading it because I am really looking towards ' Oracle's Moon' and feel I need to know what has happened before I read that. I know you might question me why do I keep reading if Ms Harrison last two books were not as good as her 1st, I have to say the description given for 'Oracle's Moon" has really whet my appetite. Can't wait.
