This DVD is the first selection of episodes of an anime TV program called 'Serial Experiments Lain'.
The first episode starts with the suicide of a girl called Chisa Yomoda, who was a classmate of Lain, an introverted 14-year-old girl.
A few days later some girls (including Lain) start getting messages from Chisa Yomoda, saying that she only abandoned her body, and that she's still alive inside Wired, a complex underground computer network.
After this the polt really starts to thicken and we're brought into a world where reality and virtual reality often mix, creating a sensation of personal interrogation as to what is real and how deep new ‘realities’ can go. A bit like ‘The Matrix’, in ways.
This is a good experience not only for fans of anime, but to everyone that enjoys to actually "think", as these episodes just get stranger and stranger.
I don't want to give much of the story away, but this is really something everyone should have!

I bought this DVD by chance, it lead me to buy the rest of the series within the week. Its a very good series with good animation and storyline. The main character is a 14 year old girl called Lain, who starts recieve messages from a girl who killed herself, claiming she is still alive in "The Wired".
The story is very thought invoking and can be compared to "The Matrix" in ways or even to "1984"
The plot is compelling and makes you want to find out the truth of what is happening to Lain and her friends as the story grows darker.
It can be slightly confusing at points if you aren't paying attention but it is a worth while series to buy and keep. The extras are nothing special but the epsiodes more than make up for it and the intro music is very good and has won awards for best anime intro music.

Great quality product. Shame that it's out of print. Series may be a bit too thinky thinky for casual viewers. Go into this series and observe the anime, don't watch it. Great series
