Product Description

From the Inside Flap

THERE IS NO better way to introduce children to classical music than with Prokofiev's musical fairy tale of the little boy (played by all the strings of the orchestra) who, with the help of a bird (played by the flute), outsmarted the big, bad wolf (played by the French horns). And now with this book and CD package, children can look and listen all at the same time. A new retelling by Janet Schulman follows the basic story, but with a kinder ending for both the big bad wolf and the argumentative duck. Peter Malone's paintings have the luminous quality of old Russian masters. The CD, with music performed by the Cincinnati Pops and word-for-word narration by Peter A. Thomas, was made exclusively for this book and CD package.

This is a really fun way to get kids interested in classical music. Mine are only toddlers but they loved the story and were soon able to pick out the various instruments

Bought for grandsons aged 4 and 8 as an introduction to classical music. The 4 year old loved it so much we had to read the book and play the CD five times on the first day! The rather nostalgic illustrations in the book are very gentle and allayed any fears about the big bad wolf!. A huge success and highly recommended for young chlidren

Ordered this for my grandson aged 3. Arrived well packaged. He absolutely loves it. He has his own CD player and plays it all the time and reads the book too. Very good purchase. My one criticism is that the advertisement did not state that a CD was included. It would be helpful if this were specified.

I bought this for my two boys (3 & 5) on the off chance it might get them interested in something other than sword fighting and cartoons (which aren't all bad, but it's becoming a bit of an obsession!). I wasn't expecting much but they absolutely love it - to the point where they'll create precarious towers of toys/cushions etc. to climb up to press play on the CD player when they get up in the morning. Following along with the book/pictures has them asking all sorts of off-the-wall questions too (which I find funny) and we're off to the Liverpool Philharmonic on Sunday to tap into the new obsession of instruments of the orchestra... It may not last, but I'm glad they've shown at least some interest!
