An amazing underrated masterpiece from Keith Tippet - Having the Original Vinyl recording I have been waiting many years for a digital edition.
The current price of the CD is too high but the MP3 download is extremely good value, albeit in MP3.
Whichever format the modern medium give old friends to relive the complexity of 50 modem Jazz and rock musicians and new music lover a chance to review the complexity and mastery of 1970s Jazz Rock !
I saw an original performance at the Royal Albert Hall in the early 70s. This included Mike Patto and his band adding to the "rock" side of the production and of copurse the beautiful “Ducks in flight” scene.
It probably been 30 years since I last played this – It been far too long !

I saw Centipede play live at the Albert Hall many moons ago and was knocked out with the concert so this CD is a fabulous reminder of that show.

More music than you can shake a stick at

There are few albums I've come across with more ideas and energy stuffed into every minute than this one. It remains and awesome achievement for Tippett.
In truth it now sounds time locked and some of the free passages do come over as a little precious. The ensemble and written parts however are powerful/considered tender by turn with, as you would expect, some fabulous playing by the 'big' names of Brit jazz of the time.
Probably not one that will be played often, listening to it in one go can be exhausting, but truly worth having in the collection to turn to.
By the way, favourite bit - about half way through side three, I've been known to dance about to it!

The Greatest Music I Have Ever Heard

I think the title says it all. I listen to a great deal of jazz, improvised music, but also other types. I bought the white label LP when this first came out and it has been at the top of my playing list ever since (and that is a longer time than I care to remember).
A slight correction to an earlier reviewer - Julie Tippetts (nee Driscoll) is Keith's wife, not his sister!

A Robert Fripp produced monsterpiece :)

As I`m saying in the title,this 50 piece ensemble 4 leingthy tracks composed by Keith Tipett and with lyrics by his sister Julie, is a daring and large scale experement that to my opinion effectevly push the boundaries of orchestral work in deed.
With lots of space for improvisations humm a little abstract and many seemingly painted images in a impressionism style.Also as I know fripp I can feel him behind all this even though hes not playing on the album his presence is defenetly there in terms of general assurance(production,spirit and other details)with this big beast.I can t find no defect in that type of work exept that it may have been too much of a bold experiment for the time, and thus suffering from (the experimental back flip sindrome)I`m smiling as I am writing this but it is exellent bravo to all them musical geniuses!!
