Product description

About the Author

Robert Winter is a recovering lawyer who likes writing about hot men in love much more than drafting a legal brief. He left behind the (allegedly) glamorous world of an international law firm to sit in his home office and dream up ways to torment his characters until they realize they are perfect for each other. Robert divides his time between Washington, DC, and Provincetown, MA.

What a beautifully-written debut from this author, that put me through a whole myriad of emotions and had me sobbing my guts out (sad and happy tears) at several points.…but that letter?...oh, my poor heart. This entire tale just smacked of realism for me and was so unbearably tragic in parts, but also truly uplifting and heartwarming…and sexy as hell, with David (*sigh* my hero) and Brandon being two of the most well-developed and utterly adorable (although not unflawed – that would be unrealistic and boring) characters that I’ve read in forever. They’re amazing together and more than a couple…they're a genuine team, and I honestly felt like I knew both of them. I'm desperately trying not to do spoilers here, as every bit of this needs to be savoured by the reader to be fully appreciated I think, but I will just say that this was sooo much more than your average May-December romance (always a fave trope of mine), and it also ended with one of the sweetest and most romantic HEAs I've read to date. Seriously, I cannot recommend this highly enough...it is an absolute MUST READ. And I'm now very eager to get my hands on Book 2.

A well-written May to December, and I suppose second chances read. Yes, there was a bucketful of sex which, I have to admit, got a little tiresome after a while, and lead to me skipping a few pages....it actually took a little of the shine off the rest of the story [the story was good enough, it didn't need all the sexual shenanigans]. Yes there were some really bitchy old queens who were just a teeny, tiny bit jealous of David and Brandon and showed their displeasure by spewing poison and playing on both David and Brandon's insecurities ....ugh, they were vile; but there was also a lot of love floating around in this story too, and Terry and Joe were just so wonderful in their support of both men (particularly after Brandon's accident). I can't deny there were a few tears, Kyle's letter to his 'successor' in particular was so touching it had me reaching for the tissues. Not sure whether I'll continue with the series, but certainly not a bad start to a new series. 4 stars from me.

For a debut novel this really was brilliant!
The way David & Brandon meet is quite unique and unlike in so many other books, they don't jump straight into bed together.....
This was a really well written story telling and showing us that when it comes to love, age is just a number. It shows us that when you think you're too old to love again, you're not.
I loved everything about this and can't wait to read more from this talented author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and engrossing story of love. 12 Jan. 2017
By LCBenson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This was a beautiful and engrossing story of love and loss. Of coming to a point in your life when you feel as though you are facing years of loneliness after a too short period of unbelievable happiness.
Robert Winter has written these characters with such depth of feeling. I mourned with David. I felt his loneliness. I understood his belief that he had had his one shot at happiness and love.
But...serendipity, karma or the alignment of the stars stepped in and gave him a chance at a new beginning. He just had to believe he could have that deep connection with another soul mate. He had to come to terms with his loss and believe he could find happiness again with another man, a younger man.
That connection, that tentative exploration of "what if" happens gradually and builds as his heart begins to open up to Brandon, a man more than twenty years his junior. The pull between the two men is undeniable but fraught with obstacles real and imagined. Both David and Brandon have to overcome their fears and prejudices. Feelings of worth, the age gap, their status in lifestyle and the opinions of friends. All these road blocks are written in such a way as to be wholly believable. The obstacles and fears both men faced rang true.
As with most true life relationships, the happiness you've come to believe in hits a snag. Will you be able to overcome this devastating blow to your happiness? Will this mean the end of your relationship or will it bring you closer in the end?
There is so much emotional feeling in David and Brandon's love story and every one of them rings true. Nothing feels contrived or written to fill a quota of word count like some authors seem to do.
Robert Winter has written a love story that flows with honest feelings and understanding of the human heart. This is a well written story of love finding a way to ever lasting happiness with the one person who makes you whole. A beautiful love story and one I will read again.

5.0 out of 5 stars An OUTSTANDING first novel 21 Dec. 2016
By CHRIS - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This is Robert Winter's first novel, and to use a baseball metaphor, he hit a walk off grand slam with this book. September has to be the best M/M romance novel I've read in the last two years. The main characters are extremely compelling, and the story is something that will keep you reading until the very last page. David is a 48 year old successful DC lawyer who lost his partner to cancer, and who is still grieving. An injury at Crossfit sets up a meeting with Brandon, a young physical therapist. The attraction between the two is perfectly written, and the developing relationship is beautifully crafted. Mr. Winter accurately and tenderly shows how both David and Brandon struggle with the age and wealth gap between them, and how it nearly tears them apart. Adversity finally makes them realize that when you truly love someone, you want to be there for them, no matter what "gulfs" lie between you. If you're looking for a book that will make you feel good about love and life, read September. I have a strong hunch that I'll be reading it again before 2016 is over.

5.0 out of 5 stars May-December, Hurt/Comfort, Superb Writing - and characters who touch your heart! WINNER! 17 Dec. 2016

WOW! You rarely get to see a debut book pack a punch like this one does. It has so many elements I love - age gap, hurt and comfort, stubborn MC's who aren't willing to let go of pride and barriers to get to the HEA. It's just beautiful - really strong writing that evokes in you, the reader, an amazing sense of place and person. It might help that I live in DC too - so I know most of the places being discussed. I cried several times - like real big tears. I don't cry much - and my heart hurt for the sadness I was feeling and the fact sometimes bad things happen and good things CAN happen after that if you let them. Heed the other reviews. Mark my words - this one is going to win something in the Members Choice Awards next year - it's absolutely worthy and it will take quite a lot to knock this one out of contention for the hurt comfort category for me. Strongly recommended for my friends who like a expertly crafted story full of feels with two MC's who make you ache and hurt for them. When is the next one coming in the series?

PS The cover is spot on.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Most beautiful and touching story 2 Mar. 2017

It is rare that I come across a story that hits me like this one. The story of these two, no three (can't forget Kyle) men really touched me deeply. This story led me from laughter to tears, from joy to sadness with tears a plenty. Thank you Robert for helping us believe in first love, second chances and seeing how betrayal can give way to redemption. Also reminding us of how real friends look and act. This is a book I will read again and again. I recommend others to read this book as well, have tissues handy. Look forward to your other books.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent start to a fabulous writing career! 8 Jan. 2017

This is a debut book? WOW!
I am very grateful that this little gem popped up on my recommendations listing as I would be very upset to see this one pass by me. This has everything I want in a MM romance. There is dilemmas, romance and RL. I want to friend this author in RL just for writing this book!
Lately all I have read is these cheesy over the top MM romances but this book is exactly what I look for. Lots and lots of pages which means value for money which is always a bonus but more importantly you get to really meet the characters and see their lives build. There is such feelings in the RL struggles written. What David went through… broke my heart. And to have the connection with Brandon?
We meet David who is a successful partner in a law firm who happens to injure himself doing a Crossfit exercise. Which means he is referred to a PT being Brandon. The instant connection they had was wonderfully written. There is a big age gap between them and this is something that David struggles with along with his quilt of moving on from his old lover.
Brandon is I think very mature for his age even though he does have struggles with his pride but I think the way his character was written, just made him seem to much more real to me.
There are 2 life changing events that happens in this story and they were so beautifully written on how things went down. I won’t say much as I will give the story away too much but that letter? Seriously Mr Winter you made me cry!
I am hopeless at writing reviews so I hope you give this book a chance as you will not regret it one bit. And I am anxiously waiting for the next book from this author. He will be here long term if he produces more fabulous work like this one.
Well done on an excellent debut novel! Looking forward to ALL your future works!
