For a debut novel this really was brilliant!
The way David & Brandon meet is quite unique and unlike in so many other books, they don't jump straight into bed together.....
This was a really well written story telling and showing us that when it comes to love, age is just a number. It shows us that when you think you're too old to love again, you're not.
I loved everything about this and can't wait to read more from this talented author!
I always enjoy an age gap romance and what I liked about this one was that the relationship came across as very realistic. David has been on his own ever since the death of his long-term partner Kyle. His way of dealing with that loss was to throw himself into his work and his exercise regime. At 48, he has an amazing physique but he over does it and ends up seeing a cute physiotherapist. This is where 26-year-old Brandon comes in. When David comes to his clinic, the two are attracted to each other and after a couple of sessions on his table, the two strike up a friendship that ever so slowly becomes something much more. However, as the two men get closer, it is David's insecurities that threaten to ruin everything.
Despite Kyle being dead, I liked the fact that he still played a part in talking some sense into David but I felt he was around just a bit too much and then there was 'the letter'. Please don't shoot me for this but it didn't make me warm to Kyle and I kinda got fed up hearing how much money David had.
Then, just when I thought that there may be hope for the couple, BAM! what on earth did poor Brandon do to deserve that?! He didn't half end up getting a rough deal. I was gutted for the guy! That trauma aside, I think the author did a great job of depicting the feelings of both men, the way they coped and how they each dealt with that particular situation. It was very believable.
All in all, I enjoyed the story. It moved at a good pace, it was an interesting read and a bit different from the other age-gap books I've read. I'd certainly read more from this author.
