This is a tale unlike any that I've encountered before. It's a love story, but also one of simple decency that can exist in people/beings. There was much, much love in this tale. A logic-defying unconditional love of a human-cyborg hybrid for an innocent baby, love for the hybrid's partner - a love that continues beyond death, in a rather bizarre but very workable and loving way. Love for a child who you've raised from birth to death, acceptance of that love and eventual loss, with the legacy of that love being seen in the children and grandchildren to come...

It's strangely perhaps one of the more emotional MM reads that I've come across, despite one of the leads being a hybrid, who was altered to have his humanity forced out of him, to become nothing but a killing machine...humanity prevailed against the odds.

It's a 5* Keeper of a tale, one that I'd have been happy to pay for, had it not been currently free.

The beginning put me off a bit--when they are killing all the people to claim the planet, and Fourteen's sudden change in behaviour...but fast forward to him landing at the new location and meeting Connell and I liked it.

It might have been Fourteen's learning to speak out loud after all the conversation being done mentally or his protectiveness of the baby, but he really grew on me.

I thought the relationship between him and Connell was really cute, especially the:
"Why do they do that with their lips?"
You'll know what I'm talking about when you get there.

However I'm not sure if I liked the end with the aging of the characters, especially with how short it is. I know it had to end somehow but I wasn't a fan.

I rarely give 5* to a book that makes me need tissues! this book is the exception. Though it's short, it's a complete book and I think, in this case, the author was right to "jump years", as it was fitting to the storyline. With little gems of sentences like "Ah, intimacy" a little smile lit the soldier's face, "I like intimacy"! or "My heart, my life, all that I am, I give to you my mate. In laughter and in tears, forever to remain by your side" it made Stone so human, a superhuman, but human! All I can say is "get the tissues ready" not only for the hurt but also for the joy! Thoroughly enjoyable read.

Another good romantic novel that was very good it ended so different than I expected but it's a beautiful romance to be read by the true romantic readers to enjoy.
Yes I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes a good romance to read.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were so lovable and drew you in. The story was so heart warming and I didn't want it to end.

It's kinda like a sweet version of Kurt Russell's Soldier (1998), if the baddies never showed up. I liked the first half better than the last half and thought there were some inconsistencies that niggled at me. But mostly I liked it.

I can't believe I paid 77p for this book. Unusual story about a man who is part machine and a soldier who can't kill a baby he finds. He heads off with her and finds a small village and a man who is of course the second character in the book. Great read and with an unusual but happy ending - don't let the unusual comment put you off - it is well worth your time. Another good one from Eden winters - bargain!
