Product description

The ME 66 is a short gun microphone head designed for use with the K6 and K6P powering modules. It is especially suitable for reporting, film and broadcast location applications and for picking up quiet signals in noisy or acoustically live environments as it discriminates against sound not emanating from the main pick-up direction.

5.0 out of 5 stars I get a perfect natural sound from my actors 14 Aug. 2014

I've always feared branching from LAV mics for certain shoots, but this mic has me almost exclusively converted to shotgun mics. As long as my setting doesn't have too much background noise, I get a perfect natural sound from my actors. No hiss or white noise worth noting. Great mic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Iincredible Mic 8 Oct. 2010
By Phil Hawkins - Published on Amazon.com
I can't believe there are no reviews on this mic. It's the best directional mic I have ever seen, in 15 years of sound engineering. It's very very sensitive, yet very directional. I do not have the video any more, but I once recorded a voice interview with a freakin' helicopter landing behind me. The helicopter noise could be heard, but it was not overwhelming the voice being recorded. I turned around to test the ambient rejection and could not point the mic directly at the chopper due to distortion. I then turned around to my voice subject and continued the interview, unimpeded. It doesn't get any better than that. This mic is tough, sounds great and has excellent ambient rejection qualities. Can't say enough good about it. I've owned mine for 5 years and use it about 8 to 10 times a year. It is very wind sensitive, though, and it's very difficult to solve that problem. A real good wind screen is necessary and I have never been able to completely suppress wind noise. But that aside, this mic is worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super mic! 18 Jun. 2011
By Scott FS - Published on Amazon.com
I purchased this mic with the power capsule a while back, and I only had the chance to use this this morning during a film shoot. Combined with a Gitzo carbon fiber boom pole and a shock mount, the mic performed admirably. The sound guy running the mixer said the sound quality was excellent.

I think one would be hard pressed to find a better, more accurate mic in this price range. Sound rejection off-axis is very good in my opinion, and quality of sound was very good. I will note that if you are booming for a non-static film project (i.e. the talent is not seated for an interview), one has to be careful to point the mic directly at the talent's mouth, since the rejection of sound not directly on axis is very good.

I'm happy with this mic for this price, and heartily recommend it when sound quality is important.

July 2014 update: I still use this mic, and it still gives great sound. It has held up really well. It's pretty directional, so correct placement is a must. Strongly recommended. 9.5 stars out of 10.
