Bought a pair of these from HMV in the UK for about £35 (reduced from £40) in about March 2009. I used to be the kinda guy to buy crappy £5 headphones from argos because I mistreated them and they often broke. After buying these Sennheisers I realise what false economy that was! I've had them ever since, and used them every day since then. In the rain, in the sun, and I have crammed them in and out of my bags/pockets more times than I would dare to count, and still they work perfect! It's upsetting to read people having such negative experiences with them as this has been the one thing that has outlasted all other tech things I've owned (even managed to kill a laptop in a shorter time than I've had them!).
The other reviews are correct that if you bang the wires you can hear it, but aside from that, the quality of the sound is incredible for the price.
If mine ever break, I will be buying a replacement pair of these that day without hesitation!
Be warned, though: it's true what other reviewers say that you must get the buds properly positioned, but this is easy if you follow the earlier advice to reach over the head and gently pull up one ear with the opposite hand whilst inserting the bud. The 'hand over the head' system ensures that the ear canal is fully opened so that the bud will then fit snugly inside. Doing this will give you the deep tuneful bass: put then in loosely like the standard phones and your music will sound like a couple of mossies trapped in a tin can!! (Could this be the reason behind reports I have read of poor audio performance?)
Also, remember to loop the longer cable to the right bud round the back of the neck: this will minimise any microphony from the cable being touched.
They come with a clever sprung top storage purse, so are easy to store, and so far have seemed very durable in use.
At this price, they are well worth the money.
Got the earphone this morning, looks really classy with lovely details but sadly I ordered a white one but got a black one.
I contacted the seller immediately and got an email within an hour which says they're sorry for the mistake and that they're going to send me a which one immediately also I can keep the black one as an appology.
I'm very happy with this purchase. Now I can see why the seller has such high score on amazon:)
Thanks for everything.
The inline headphone control is highly useful as it prevents the scramble to reach your device when someone is trying to talk to you! However as for the other accessories, I haven't really used them much - the pouch is merely acting as a storage container for the cable organiser and spare buds.
Having said all this, I have had them for over a year, and they are definitely starting to show it - they are used often, and regularly jammed in and out of pockets/bags etc. so this is somewhat expected, and there is nothing to be done to stop white coloured electronics showing dirt! However what I did find is that the rubber sections on the jack plug and split began to degrade quite badly - they picked up the dirt the worst, and really showed the wear and tear, and eventually I just pulled them off!
Similarly, the little bits of rubber on the cable next to the headphones themselves quickly detached themselves from the headphones, leaving them free on the cable.
For the price they are absolutely brilliant, and I would definitely recommend getting them from Amazon, as they are far cheaper than the high street where they retail for between £40-50. The sound is great, and in fairness, the dirt/wear factors are partly a result of the white colour and the rough use they get, so I won't mark them down for this, especially as they still work well and are so cheap!
