As many of you have probably experienced, the headphones provided with any Apple iPod product are well below the standard of the product itself. One invariably buys another type of headphone. I have tried many types over the years and the Sennheiser PMX 680i are an extremely good option, especially if you cycle or excercise.
They fit very well and comfortably and do not cause any irritation or pain in the ear. The sound quality is excellant whilst at the same time letting you be aware of your environment and external noises. The remote control is very easy to use and works well with the latest iPods. Light to wear, water resistant to normal rain showers, easy to put on and take off I have been very impressed by them.
On the downside they are quite pricey, but the quality and performance more than make up for the extra cash layout.

Headset does it's job very well. Water proof and well built. Sound quality is often an issue in this type of headphones but not in this case, just make sure you fit them well in your ears.
Be aware that you will not be able to wear most of caps, hats and some eye wear with it because of neck band. This is not a problem if you use specific sport caps which do not go down too much over your ears.

Bought these about 10 months ago as I was training to run a 10km part of the marathon (generally a weight lifter), I have had several cheap headsets before this and even purchased a set of skull candy smoking buds, but they just dont cut it for running and kept falling out. Sennheiser headphones get the thumbs up and a cheesy grin from me, I listen to alot of trance with heavy bass, and these are perfect as they allow you to feel the bass yet allow a small amount of background noise so you do not fell a car bonnet as well. They are light and do not cause irritation when on. I use these in the gym now as well, and do not budge when deadlifting, that is the ultimite test, however they are not great for behind the head exercises. These were bought for big bass cardio and perform that task excellently, so well worth the price tag.

I wanted something that would not slip when walking the dogs. I have had behind the head earphones before. Pros, come with a carrying pouch if needed, seem sturdy and have a long connection cable. Sound is adequate for MP3. I like the voice control element and the fact there is no microphone boom, but you can hold a conversation on the phone easily.
Cons, the control element is quite high on the cable and is fiddly for big fingers. Practice helps, but you cannot see the control, as it is under your jawline. The other point I did not realise, is the behind the head element means the earphones are shaped so that the band fits high on the back of your head, not around your neck. It is stable, although I have not run with them.
The drawback, is in cold weather I wear a hat, and this makes it very difficult and uncomfortable to wear the earphones. They end up being pressed hard into your ear or out of alignment on your ear.
Having said all that, I wear them as much as I can walking the dogs and I enjoy my music again.

These headphones arrived today. Have not tried them yet, but the statement "Short cable for ease of use while running or working out with your player around your neck or on your arm; option of using extension cable with volume control" is not true. There is only one cable, which has the volume control integrated into it. THere is no short cable with extension.

The four star rating is really a one star and a five-star rating.

One star rating: I'd used this headset a number of times before I needed to use the volume slider (the mic was not needed as I bought the headset to use with my my sportsman radio). The slider didn't work. If you buy this product, be sure to test everything!

Five-star ratings for: a) overall quality, including sound quality and b) for this being the only headset I can use when wearing a cycle helmet and be able to hear what's going on around me (which is what I bought it for). The ear pieces just sit in the ear and don't exclude other sounds.

... they are not quite as described in the product description. The cable is actually not adjustable at all. The integrated volume controller (which includes play/pause/skip functions for iDevices) is not detachable, so the cable will always be of a fixed length. A clip to fasten the wire to your clothing does help to manage excessive cord length, but a detachable unit would have been a lot better for people who run with their music player strapped to their arm or in a high pocket.

Excusing that fact, these are great headphones for people who run outdoors. The open design doesn't cancel external noise and the back of the band has a reflective strip (both handy safety features). The fact that the cord only joins to the headband on one side prevents a lot of hassle with wire kinks and tangles, and for me, the fit is stable and secure.
