The closed-back HD 25-1 IIs are purpose-designed, professional monitoring headphones offering high attenuation of background noise. Capable of handling very high sound pressure levels and of extremely robust construction, these headphones perform exceptionally well in high-noise environments, e.g. ENG, sound reinforcement, studio monitoring and audio equipment testing. The capsule is rotatable for one-ear listening. Ideal monitoring headphones for cameramen and DJs.

Now I'm no audio expert and my ears aren't the best, after many years of live music, but when I plugged these in even I could hear the difference in quality. The Sennheiser HD25-1 II headphones offered superior audio playback quality compared to the normal headphones I use in everyday life: Marshall Major II for music and iPhone in-ear buds. I could hear sounds from my favourite CDs that I've never heard before. I tried them whilst video editing and they are just brilliant. When you take them off you really can hear how bad other domestic audio equipment is in comparison. And those Dre Beats the kids wear? TOYS.
The Sennheiser headphones are comfortable to wear for extend periods.
I was slightly disappointed with the plastic feel to them, as I tend to break things easily, but they seem to be lasting well.
The other disappointment was how little of the surrounding 'ambient' noise is blocked out. To be honest I was hoping they would block more sound out, but it isn't proving a problem in day to day use.
These are brilliant headphones, but they don't fully block-out background room or location noise.
- Push the two parts of the split band together
- Adjust the cup positions so that they're centered over each ear (doh)
- Now move the bands apart to adjust clamping force
- These things sound are so revealing of nuance and detail that they can transform music - in extreme cases tracks change completely
- They're very good at sounds with "high attack" - drums, electric guitar - their are very few better ways of listening to rock
- If you are using these with a portable player, you might want to pair them with a pocket amp. This isn't necessary for the players with stronger amps - the Cowan J3 especially is a brilliant partner for 25s.
Secondly, the parts that wear the most are exchangeable without having to dismantle or return the unit i.e. earpads and the cable. They are professional earphones after all, but the wear and tear of a DJ using these would, I guess, be fairly similar to the abuse an 18 year old can dish out, so it's a good job they are "maintainable".
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, my "street savvy" and "switched on" teenager absolutely loves them and her friends think they are super cool! What more could I have asked for?
I was never completely satisfied.
This pair changed everything.
My prior pro quality phones (Allen Heath XD-53), weigh 350gr.
After wearing them for a couple of hours, your ears start to ache.
The Sennheiser are merely 138 grammars, according to my scales.
This makes a HUGE difference.
Combine this with the split headband, and you have something you can wear for many hours without any problem.
I have slept wearing these. In the morning my ears were not in pain.
One other thing that is important to me is the small form factor.
They are the right size to fit around my neck without bothering me, when not wearing them.
Another plus: you can wear them in the metro without people starring at you strangely :)
The sound quality is great.
Rich lows and exceptional highs.
They also do a great job at insulating background noise.
This means you can enjoy your music at lower sound levels, avoiding damage to your hearing.
