Sengoku Basara is essentially Dynasty Warriors but set in Japan rather than China. Characters are loosely based on real life war heroes from Japanese history, with exaggerated personalities and weaponry.

This is not a new title - the series is extremely popular in its native country, but for the West it seems very few people have heard of it. If you are unfamiliar with the whole 'Dynasty Warriors' experience, it's basically hack 'n' slash gameplay (think Devil May Cry) set in various war zones with you and your army vs. the opposition.

The most appealing thing about this game, for me, is how wonderfully unique each character is to control. With Dynasty Warriors there was a lot of 'familiar ground' with every character having the signature 'two squares and a triangle to stun', 'five squares and a triangle for the long combo' etc. Here, okay the same buttons used are applied to each character, but the WAY in which they are used varies greatly.

For example, holding a button down can change some character's combos, or might launch them into the air for air attacks. Many attacks 'develop' as the character gains experience leading to combos being extended and the sheer speed and intensity of some of the moves available make gameplay incredibly satisfying :D

Each character has a Basara attack (or Musou for DW players) that works on exactly the same basis, although filling the meter for this takes far longer than in DW.

Many fans of the SB series have been complaining about the lack of Japanese voice overs to replace the hammy english dialogue. I am disappointed by the lack of an option, but because it doesn't really affect the gameplay, it's not really a big deal.

Well this game is a rather fun hack and slash with characters in sengoku basara, as you battle through each of the characters campaigns there are many different levels and you will face off against the other hero's in the series and also the antagonists. The reason this game gets three stars is there is a large roster of playable characters which is not in its self a bad feature but when your going through the game completing the stories of each character it will get representative

This game is a ton of fun if you don't take it too seriously. Basically, you pick a warrior (you start with 8 and unlock more as you go), run onto a battlefield of your choosing and destroy armies of thousands using crazy combos and super powerful attacks.

Some people complain these kind of games are a little bit repetitive. True, but I don't really find that to be a problem. If we think about it many of the games we play might be seen as repetitive, but that's not the point, is it?

If you've played the Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors series at all then you'll have any idea of the concept. This is like that but much faster, flashier and more fun. Capcom essentially saw KOEI's stuff and thought they could do better (as least it comes off that way), and they succeeded.

If you're a fan of hack-and-slash games or enjoyed the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors series, definitely give this a go. If you were not a fan maybe take a look at a couple online clips and see if you like what you see, but perhaps this would not be for you. I personally enjoyed it a lot and would highly recommend it.

Only took like 3 working days to get here, new and sealed product as advertised, good price and awesome game. Talking about it can not do it justice. I loved the first one and the second one was even better, and this one I played one stage and was blown away, it is absolutely great and has so much extra things, not to mention it is in English unlike part 2 which is only an import so if you like dynasty warriors or samurai warriors, and games like that you will love this.

This type of game reminds me of the old hack'n'slash type games that were present on the old gen consoles. I have never played any types of Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors games prior to this, but after spending hours on it, I'm going to have to give those other games a go. Perhaps not for everyone though, this game has battles that last from 5 min - 30 min each, a lot of them are similar and you're expected to grind on them a lot. So if you don't have much patience, the game might not be for you. Also, each character has his unique storyline with split paths, so after you defeat the game with one character you can go and play the story mode as him again, choosing a different path. I'd like to look at it as a sub-story or an alternative story.

Overall, great game.

If you've played any of the Dynasty Warriors-games, you'll recognize alot playing this game. There are less characters and less variety in terms of the levels, but the ones that you get are much more interesting in terms of playability. It's a load of fun playing with a friend, as it doesn't drop too much in framerate(stable 30) and the universe doesn't take itself too seriously. This means fun and creative characters both in terms of personality and weaponry. Have fun!
