About the Author

S. M. Sze is UMC Chair Professor of the National Chiao Tung University and President of the National Nano Device Laboratories, Taiwan, R.O.C. For many years he was a member of  the technical staff at Bell Laboratories. Professor Sze is the co–inventor of the nonvolatile semiconductor memory. He has written numerous texts on device physics, including PHYSICS OF SEMICONDUCTOR DE VICES, considered a reference classic. In 1991, he received the IEEE J. J. Ebers award for his "fundamental and pioneering contributions..." He received his PhD in solid–state electronic from Stanford University in 1963. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Like his previous works in the field of semiconductors, Sze has again provided an very extensive book covering all aspects within semiconductor device physics, blended within an acute insight into state of the art fabrication techniques. This book is a must for both the physics/electronics student and semiconductor engineer alike. This recent work is far more readable than perhaps his previous books on the subject. A more extensive use of graphics and pictures provides the reader with a hold on the subject. If you need a book on the subject, this is the one to get.

Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
This text is favoured by both teachers and students around the world as an introductory text for semiconductor device physics. This, in combination with others by Sze et al., has been used for several of my undergraduate modules. Even now I revisit it from time to time. It is limited to mainly to Si and GaAs, as these are the predominant materials used when this was published (and still today). All important physical material and device properties are studied, but in a lucid manor. As such the level of detail is not sufficient for more my needs now. I would very much like to read the latest edition for comparison, as this was written over a decade ago now. Over all, I have been happy with the purchase.

The book of choice for semiconductors physics and devices.

One criticism is that index is pretty poor, which is not ideal for a reference book. However it is packed with good information and the diagrams are much, much, better than in the older editions.
