This book explains what self-hypnosis and hypnosis in general is about and how to do it. It is layed out very well and easy to understand. The writers provide instructions for applying the method to many different problems. I bought it for stress and found I also used the anxiety and the teethgrinding instructions with good results, and my wife used the pain control part for a low back pain that flares up occasionally. I've loaned my copy to several friends over the past year who've gotten very good results. There's a lot in the bood for the money. --GP Minneapolis

Since finding this book a year ago I have recommended it to many people both professionally , and to friends and family. It shows the possiblity of taking control of your life in ways that we are usually too complacent or un-selfconfident enough to persist with. It addresses many issues that we all have trouble with, to greater or lesser extents. Dealing with stress, fears, children, change of life habits such as smoking and dieting are dealt with . The chapter on pain control is excellent and I have no hesitation in recommending this book to anyone who is ready to help themselves.

As a Clinical Hypnotherapist - this book is the first one on the list of books I recommend to anyone interested in self-hypnosis. I consider it one of the best books on self-hypnosis. It is very well written and it covers vast range of topics whether you desire to lose weight, stop smoking, increase self-confidence, manage pain, reduce stress or just about anything else.

If you happen to be one of those who find this book too challenging or advanced and are looking just for some scripts you can use, you may also check out Instant Self-Hypnosis: How To Hypnotize Yourself with Eyes Open.

I bought this as I wanted to give up smoking, and had trouble sleeping sometimes. I found it very useful, it gave me a much better understanding of my own sub-concious mind, and it was a very positive read. Good tips on how to understand and channel your own sub concious thoughts, control your breathing, positive visualisation, rationalise, etc... That seemed to be the general theme of it for me.
I haven't smoked for 6 weeks now, partly due to this book, partly because it was the right time for me to give up. But this book definitely was a good tool to have while I made the choice.

I purchased this book with a view to helping myself control my joint pain, as I cannot take prescription medication.
As instructed I read the first half of the book, then I picked out the relevant chapter on pain control. This is no quick fix, but I have found that if you follow the instructions and reread various points and practice the suggestions given, it does help. I have also used the section on weight loss (being overweight does not help joint pain) and I have found that very helpful, as it makes you really think about why you are overeating in the first place!
I would recommend this book.
Only 4 stars as I am work in progress.

I spent some time reading about self-hypnosis online and checking out recommendations for a comprehensive, user-friendly book to buy before purchasing this book and I have not been disappointed.

The first half explains in detail the concept of self-hypnosis and the various ways to enter a trance state with clear instructions and lots of helpful explanations of and comparisons between the different methods. The second half is broken down into chapters that deal with specific areas such as: increasing confidence, stopping smoking etc. My reason for wanting to learn about self-hypnosis was to use it as a method of pain relief for chronic pain and I have already begun to notice improvement in my own situation as a result of putting into practise the methods recommended.

This book is brilliant. It dispels much of the bullcrap that surrounds using "words" (hypnosis) to help create change.

It is also written in a wonderfully engaging way with simple examples from the experience of the authors,

Another very good part of the book is that it shows you many different ways to "do" the hypnosis part of "self-hypnosis".

It also covers specific issues and problems such as smoking that hypnosis seems to be very good in helping people to actually stop - especially when all else has previously failed.

If this type if stuff interests you then this is a very good investment and one of many books I would recommend you to purchase.

With hypnosis I sometimes recommend this book, hypnotherapy by Dave Elman, anything by Milton Erickson, the answer within by Steve Lankton and 10 random books on the subject. A couple that are recent and some classics.

This will put you in good stead if you ever choose to delve a little deeper in the field of hypnosis...

I have embarked upon an enquiry into many different facets of personal development. Now, onto self-hypnosis! Actually, the material shares much with the teachings of Richard Bandler/Paul McKenna - they may have even taken from the authors...Anyway, it is an excellent read, with a very open style. I strongly endorse it.
