This is an outstanding, charismatic watch. For those who might think "£1,400 for a Seiko!", there are many Seikos that cost £5,000 and up, and this one shares the same movement and assembly line. It is hard to put a finger on what makes this hand built watch so great, but here goes. The dial is deep and beautifully defined, with superb bevelled hands, hand applied lume markers and a beautiful gloss bezel with the best action of any watch I have tried. The size is imposing but does not seem over-large on a smaller wrist because the actual size of the dial is quite modest. The case itself is a superb multifaceted mono-bloc design and therefore dispenses with the need for a Helium escape valve. The movement is an unadorned version of a Grand Seiko movement, normally found in watches three times the price. But these facts do not convey the certain something about the MM300 that has me wearing it all the time in preference to my Rolexes, Breitlings, Tudors and Bell and Ross.

There are a few drawbacks. Firstly the bracelet I find unappealing and it has the notorious Seiko pin and collar sizing system, which is very fiddly and not for an amateur. I have got round this by removing the bracelet and putting the watch on an Isofrane rubber strap, which looks superb (although the watch comes with its own rubber strap as well). Secondly, many prospective owners worry about where to get it serviced, but mine comes with a full international Seiko warranty, so in theory, and as yet untested, any Seiko dealer should be able to handle it for you. Thirdly the crown feels a bit delicate and care has to be taken when screwing it back down, as there are several stories of the crown being accidentally cross-threaded.

I managed (at last) to buy a (used) MM300 a few weeks back and am so glad I made the purchase.
A true iconic Dive watch with a lot of history.

This watch is as good as and in many ways exceeds a Rolex Submariner as this is rare and so classy.
In terms of fit, finish and quality, with the beveled hands, the superb indices, the monocoque case, the beautiful finishing all round, and the waffle strap (Classic - as found on The Original Seiko 6159) with the Grand Seiko movement it exceeds the Sub and even the Sea Dweller.

Comparisons aside, the price for this is a relative bargain considering what you get.

This is a chunky watch, a proper Dive Watch with outstanding lume - sits very well on my 7 1/2" wrist and is comfortable and sits well on smaller wrists too.

Wears small for the size. and I think looks far better with the iconic waffle strap.

Anyway, if you're reading this, you know something about this watch enough to want to buy one - I say take the plunge, go for it, you wont regret it, as this is a keeper and something you'll hand to your kids - or to sell on it'll hold value.
People wonder whether it is worth it, as it is "Just a Seiko" - it is more than just a Seiko, and more than just a watch, buying this you're getting fit and finish exceeding a comparable Swiss Omega or Rolex costing much more, you're getting the history and the knowledge you're wearing something worth every penny, something which you KNOW is special, and those in the know will look at your wrist in admiration and a nod.

Ultimately, it's all about what you want, IF you want people to look and you want every one to know that you've a status symbol on your wrist - buy Swiss, an Omega or Rolex.

The watch is beyond good. If you've had a Sumo (around 500 bucks) and you get an MM300 (around 2300 bucks) you can discover all at once what the point of expensive watches really is. Its right there on your wrist - very close to the back of your hand (with which you are quite familiar) - so glorious engineering and finishing can be genuinely appreciated. Its a trip. But enough has been said about this watch already. It is worth emphasizing that it is much smaller and more elegant than the Sumo - so don't be put off by how thick and chunky it is. It is also wonderfully comfortable and the bracelet is exceptionally well made. This is the sort of watch that makes it totally pointless to have any other watches.

The only point of the review is to say that I had no problems at all getting this through Amazon marketplace - 'trendor' was perfectly reliable. Rather than taking a big risk and getting one through ebay and being landed with an enormous tax and duty bill, I went through Amazon and got one with tax included. Stress free experience - well done trendor and Amazon marketplace.

This watch is SBDX001 - MM300
