It ran about 15 secs slow on arrival, read somewhere that leave watch face up overnight to rectify this. This morning it runs bang on time.
I'm notoriously hard on my tools and equipment and expect the best from it because I need to rely on it 100%, and for that reason I always pay a premium for top-quality kit because it works-out far cheaper in the long-run: experience has taught me that cheap crap has a nasty habit of failing when you need it most, ie when you're miles from anywhere in lousy conditions and no replacements are available, and this watch shouts quality and reliability from the moment you open the box.
I've always liked Automatic watches for the smooth sweep of the second-hand and this is no exception: OK, so the sweep isn't as smooth as a Rolex, but you aren't even paying the price of getting a Rolex serviced and you're getting a watch that's every bit as capaple, just without the fancy-name and huge insurance/servicing/replacement costs.
I reckon it's maybe gained a handful of seconds in the two weeks that I've been wearing it every day, but reviews from others suggest that this should settle-down over time, and a few seconds here and there isn't going to cause my world to end.
The luminous markers are bright, clear and easy to read for several hours after it gets dark, and the strap that some claim is stiff and uncomfortable is easily softened by immersing the strap in hot water for 10 seconds, curling the strap to fit your wrist, then plunging it into ice-cold water to 'set' the polymer at your chosen curvature.Read more ›
Glass is quite easily smudged by finger prints, it is also flat and not domed which I have read may give a mirrored look under water.
It feels quite comfortable on the wrist, no slipping. The watch sits nicely on the wrist and is a perfect size, big enough to stand out and small enough so as to not impede normal hand motions, the bezel being located at the 4 o'clock position shaves off some bezel protrusion width which may otherwise dig into your hand like some other watches.
The winding mechanism can be tricky to figure out at the start, everything is easy enough to understand if you read the instructions, the watch is quite simple, no extra frills. I think this watch will be a classic in the years to come.
However, this SKX007J1 is (practically) NO different to the SKX007K1. Well, to be honest there is a slight difference. The 'J' is assembled in Japan. This is also written on the watch face along with '21 Jewels'. But this is where the differences stop. The 'K' is currently assembled in Malaysia (previously Singapore) but most importantly, the movenment mechanism is the same in both watches, both being made in Japan. And both watches are identical....that is a FACT!
That said, the 'J' will appeal to those, like me that like 'MADE IN JAPAN' and '21 JEWELS' printed on the watch face.
Currently, the 'K' can be purchased on Amazon UK for around 130-170 GBP. What you must ask yourself is, are you going to get a better watch for the extra 70 odd pounds.....the answer is, NO! Are you going to get a watch that is more collectable in years to come.....the answer is, NO!
The 'J' is made for the Asian market whereas the 'K' is made for the European market.
Asside from all of this it is important to point out that both models are for the money, incredible. They are simple in design yet striking. The build quality is stunning. And if all of the forums out there are anything to go by the automatic movement provides VERY accurate time-keeping. AS I previously mentioned 200+ GBP is overpriced and can be purchased a little cheaper given that a lot of postage is also often added on for dispatch from companies in Singapore and the US.Read more ›
