I downloaded this book after reading a sample in Indie Chicks: 25 Women 25 Personal Stories and was hooked. The story really drew me in, and though the story was nothing special, what really made it was the description of emotion that Julia feels, how all encompassing her grief becomes. Beautiful writing.

I liked the way the author handled Julia's loss of first her parents, then her fiance and, finally, her husband. I particularly liked the way the author described Julia's husband, Evan's death - not an easy task for a writer. The book has a good plot and the settings are well-drawn, especially the ocean-side location.

Having said that, I found the MC, Julia, to be over-angsty, internalising every little incident and emotional experience, though she did improve by the end of the story. I guess this is one of the hazards of writing in the first person. Supporting characters are interesting, especially Savannah (though I wished she'd been even more awful) and Kimmy. The girls are all extremely beautiful and talented and the guys extremely handsome and talented, which is a bit too cliched for my personal taste. Repeat descriptions about how good-looking Jake was became irritating, as was Julia's habit of doing a strange, dismissive gesture with her hand pointed at the horizon. I couldn't visualise this at all. Misplaced commas were REALLY annoying and broke the rhythm of the read for me.

The last third of the story was by far the best part. I started to enjoy myself and to like Julia a little more.

This is an intense, very emotional but wonderful story. Like her other novels, Katherine Owen had me in tears, laughing, happy & sad. The strong story leaves you wondering how someone so young can endure so much loss and pain and still carry on. But Julie does and she's this wonderfully strong but vulnerable character that you just want a happy ending for. Jake is another great character whom you want to shake at times but then he sees clearly.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good love story with some raw emotion thrown in.

I had not read any Katherin Owen books - until I read Not To Us which I enjoyed so much I downloaded Seeing Julia. I love this author. Her writting is so intense. I felt Julia's pain. The twists in the story kept me reading and I was anxious for her and Jake. Katherin is a master at romance and the intrigue in her stories makes you want to read more. Not to spoil the story I will just see READ THIS BOOK and you won't be disappointed. Looking forward to reading her next story When I See You which I've just downloaded.

Can't say I liked it. Just dreary julia and her total self absorption that irritated. I don't read to be engulfed in someone's tedious "woe is me". Glad got for free-oops just checked. I paid for it. Obviously based on the glowing reviews. I must remember to read low reviews before wasting money.

My real score for this book is 4.5* I can't give it 5 because ,for me, I thought the ending was a little rushed, however, this does not detract from the wonderful story. I thought Julia was a great character considering all her troubles the story could have got bogged down in angst but I thought there was a good balance. I would nt hesitate to recommend this book & I am going to buy another from this author.

A great journey through grief and love. Well written characters and a great supporting cast. If your looking for a straight forward romance or a cliche then go elsewhere. This book deals with grief in a way that is believable and totally relatable. I look forward to reading more from Katherine Owen.
