A selection of colourful Chards that can be used in salads or as spinach. A less conventional use would be to use the plants as an edible Border plant as its bright colours are truly magnificent! Cultivation Sow the seed under glass in Jan - Feb or March - July Outdoors Sow the seed thinly and cover lightly. The seed will germinate between 8 and 30 Deg C so early sowings may require some heat Keep the soil/compost moist. Once large enough to handle thin the seedlings to Appx 12 " apart. Harvest from May onwards

Sadly the plant tastes revvolting, I'm not sure it's the plants fault, if you are a lover of chard you will defiantly love the super strong chard taste of this variety, otherwise your stuck, no amount of fancy cooking or prayers could diminish the overwhelming assault on your taste buds.
Seriously, we have boiled, steamed, fried and baked the leaves and stalks beyond a level most people would consider 'too far' and yet the strength of flavour remains.
Oh, another positive the birds and slugs don't touch it, I guess perhaps the legend of its potent flavour is know amoungst the other animal kingdoms...
