Described as 'Designed in Europe Made in China' this very heavy 2.75 Kg weight cast iron very rustic looking nut cracker will take nuts up to about 3 cm thickness ~ which certainly includes all walnuts that I personally have found.

It is the best cracker of hard almond shells that I have encountered - and I have tried a wide variety of different designs .
It really looks more like an item to keep in the garden shed with garden tools, rather than an item for a house dining room table ~ but it is very effective at cracking nuts that other crackers may not have the force to break open.
It may come pre-assembled , or in several parts in the box which are easily screwed together.
Highly recommended good value for money nutcracker; but the really heavy chunky dark brown cast iron style appearance may not be appealing to some domestic tastes ?

I bought this as a present for my husband who has broken countless nutcrackers over the years. Finally, one that crushes the shells of the most obstinate nuts! Yes, it looks more like an instrument of torture than a nutcracker, but that is part of its appeal.

Fantastic product. I have arthritic hands, and this nutcracker enables me to crack even the most difficult of nuts. Yhe short pitch of the thread, also gives superb control. The only drawback is that the central cruciple could be enlarged because it is difficult to get the very largest wallnuts into the cracking area.

This is a badly made replica from China of a superb original from crackin nuts, which was designed and made in the UK from the 1980's onwards. This is a rough cast product and badly finished. Take a look at the original at [...] or crackin nuts for a great comparison. Of course if you don't mind having an ugly replica then that's fine, but when there is a stylish original available made in the U.K in colour choices that are attractive enough to have out as a display piece, then think again before you buy.

This is a showpiece item - poorly designed as a working utensil. The product was delivered with the top clamp and screw loose in the box. The item was painted in dark brown presumably to suggest an aged appearance. The screw assembly had to be dismantled and cleaned of paint before the nutcracker could be use. The screw holding the top clamp sits proud thus takes the full brunt of the force to crack the nut shells. Disappointed with this purchase.

I found this worked well and cracked the hardest almond. It was even better when I put a little machine oil on the screw. It also has an edge to place the nut shells. As it is cast iron, it looks to last for life!

I am very surprised by the negative review on this product: that mentions `3 screws found in the box', but my version is solid cast iron and has no little screws!!

There is another metal screw type nutcracker on the amazon list but that markets at about £25, whereas I bought this at £14.95 from Nutley's Kitchen Gardens.

Not very speedy, but highly effective on the toughest nuts (e.g. almonds). After you spin down the screw on the nut, you must un-spin the screw, which takes a few seconds. Larger than the photo makes it appear. Not long after I bought this, I felt the need to buy a classic, normal hand nutcracker for those easy walnuts and pecans. Good to have both, I suppose.

I can not recommend this nutcracker. Mine arrived with three screws loose - I found them in the packaging. When reassembled I found it could not open enough to take a walnut so was no good. It might be ok if you only eat small nuts.
