After seeing the cover and the synopsis I just had to read this book.
Emily is starting her new life, she's finally escaped her past and is looking to keep a low profile and this is fine until the first day of class when she meets the bubbly Avery, Avery turns out to be a great friend and drags Emily out of her shell, Emily meets Luka Tate Masterson and wow does he take her breath away, not only is he hot but he has the whole Russian accent thing going on, how's a girl to resist that.
Both Emily and Tate have secrets and what will happen when those secrets come out.
First let me say I absolutely loved the idea behind this and I really wanted to like it more but, yes there's always a but, firstly the writing wasn't brilliant, the conversations felt stilted and immature, now I'm well aware that I'm not the target audience for this book but my children and their friends are around this age and it just didn't feel right at all.
Also I didn't particularly like Emily and I know she's suffered horribly in the past but I just didn't buy it, she'd fly off the handle all the time, she's supposed to be worried about her past catching up with her but she can't even get round to making a single phone call to check and then she has a huge TSTL moment that I just couldn't get over.
So this book had potential but for me anyway it wasn't realised.

First book in what I hope is a series.

Mafia storyline but not too dark and gritty bit of a YA romance but was an entertaining read.

Really enjoyed this book, Emily was a cute and lovable character, while Tait was an uber alpha male, both have secrets, unfortunately Emily's catches up with her and Tate steps up big time. Can't wait for the next book. I'm hooked.

I stopped reading this book after only 50 pages because it just wasn't very good. All happens very fast and totally unbelievable. There are a lot of good books out there so I'm not wasting my time when I don't like a book from the beginning. A shame because I really liked the idea of th Russian mafia and and alpha man.

Secrets is the first in the Russian Mafia books. it's starts with Emily who is running from something or someone from her past. she moves to tennessee to try and get a fresh start. what she didn't expect when she got there was Avery, who bulldozed her way into Emilys life through their joint early morning classes.
it's through this friendship that Emily and Avery meet Cameron and Luka 'Tate'.
Tates father is the big boss of this Russian Mafia with Tate being a boss in his own right. the thing I really liked about this book was yes there was hints and talks of hit men and Mafia dealings with no real details or descriptions. I find that Sapphire keeps her story's more romance based than on the dirty nitty gritty side of the tale, which is why for me, I know that I'm always going to enjoy reading one of her books without getting rather squeamish or horrified by the detail described  (i have a very active imagination).
there was also a twist to this tale that I didn't expect and has now raised questions in my mind about where the books will go from here and just how many of Tate and his crew will get to tell their own story.
loved the book and can't wait to read exposed which is book 2 in the Russian Mafia books and book one in the Oath Keepers MC

Secrets drew me in quickly and kept me on the edge of my seat reading for hours. I COULD NOT put the book down because I had become so attached to the characters that I was afraid something dreadful would happen to them, especially Emily. The plot was incredibly suspenseful and mesmerizing.

The characters were complex and well developed. Emily was very likable, and Tate was a perfectly written alpha male. (Back off, ladies, he's mine!) I liked that their relationship was passionate and HOT but went beyond just physical attraction.

This was the first book I've read by Sapphire Knight, and I have to say it's an outstanding book! I have already downloaded three other books in her Russkaya Mafiya series. Sapphire Knight has a new fan. My only complaint is that the book wasn't as well edited as it deserved, and that sometimes distracted me as I read.

I reviewed this book on behalf of A Book Lover's Emporium book blog.

Let me start by saying that I had never read a Mafia novel before so I had no idea what to expect at all when I read this.

Emily is running from something or someone, it's enough to make her terrified of making friends. She didn't plan on meeting Tate, sexy, tattoed, and hiding a few secrets of his own.....
This story takes us on the journey of them discovering each other and developing a relationship. Based on the mafia it does have some graphic violence in it and a harrowing story emily's past.

I really enjoyed this book, so much I had to keep reading them all until I had read all the ones available in the series!
