Can we agree that the plot is pretty ridiculous? But that's not generally the point about historical romances, and this one gets the key thing right - the developing relationship between H & h. Some tart dialogue (the heroine is perhaps just a little too angry all the time), and a decent sense of place (Cornwall) make this a most enjoyable read.

If Lord Donovan Trent had his way, he would spend his days carelessly wooing the women of London society. Instead, he found himself banished to the English cuontryside of Cornwall, forced by the decrees of his father's will to run his family's tin mines and find a country bride. The last thing the handsome lord needed was a local lass sticking her nose into his affairs, but that seemed to be exactly what Corisande Easton had in mind... Corie had spent her whole life struggling to help those less fortunate than herself. When she heard that Lord Donovan had arrived in Cornwall, she seized the opportunity to confront him about his family's mistreatment of the overworked tinners. Donovana and Corie soon found their tempers flaring while fighting to deny their fiery passions - until a secret business arrangement forced them into each other's arms.... This was my fourth book from Miriam Minger and even though it is not her usual stlye i was not as disapointed as i thought i would be. The story is sweet and compelling. I liked the way the heroes earlier dislike towards each other gradually turns turns into powerful attraction. The book also contains lots of humor and also sweet moments where you actually feel sympahty towards the main characters. All in all this is quite a satisfying read and only the lack of real action that is usual in Minger's other books has stopped me from giving it 5 stars.

The start of this book had me enjoying the tale, both the hero and heroine having enjoyable spats with each other. However I got increasingly annoyed with Corisande and her unreasonable assumptions about her husband, and, despite preferring strong minded women in novels, found myself wanting to give her a good smacking! A pity, as this book was shaping up to be good value.

This is an easy read to while away long winter evenings. Donovan is an engaging soul.
I found the early chapters a bit predictable and her fiery temper tantrums slightly amusing, but, the story romps on apace.
No spoilers, here, if you expect a review to give the complete story, then my reviews are not for you.
Who is the mystery horseman? For me, this part of the story was unnecessary and detracted from the main plot, almost a filler for the book, but, others may enjoy it.
If you like a book to take you away on cold, winter evenings, romance, mystery, then this is for you.

This was a really good yarn. The romance was totally predictable, though none the less enjoyable, but the sub-plot had enough twists and turns to keep the reader's interest. Perhaps the only minor drawback was the author occasionally slipping out of period language into modern. But it was overall a very good read.

I would have loved to give 5 stars as i loved the storyline, however I could not warm to Corisande. Her constant temper spoilt the book in my opinion. She failed to evolve, and even when I learned her story, I had little sympathies because of her constant attack on Donavon. I disliked her even to the end.

Good story about a young woman who helps the poor even to the point of smuggling. A lord who must marry a country girl to inherit under his fathers Will. A marriage that suits both of them short term but then they fall in love. Good author but my pet hate, some of the next book in this series.

I loved it from start to finish. I expected very little as I hadn't paid anything and most of the free books on amazon tend to be a waste of time. I was pleasantly surprised to find this so different. It was detailed with a well thought out story and excellent writing by the author. There was romance, humour and even the thrill of attempted murders and a kidnap and even more romance :-)!! Thoroughly enjoyed the book and I'm about to purchase the sequel which I expect will be just as good. Really enjoyed it and would recommend.
