So, this is a book I've been meaning to read for two years, ever since I met author Tracy James Jones at a local book event. I'll be honest, at first I thought it was going to be a romance set back in the Victorian era. That is a fine example of me judging a book by its cover, and part of the reason it took me so long to read it. I'm not as big on old-timey romance as I probably should be. I much prefer contemporary. Lo and behold… This story IS contemporary! Silly me!

I read this book in one day. It's a quick, fast-paced read, with a lot of dialogue, which I personally love. As a reader and a writer, I'm a big fan of dialogue. It helps me get to know the characters better. As promised, the characters in Ms. Jones' book all have their secrets… And the promise of revelation and reveal will keep you turning the pages until the very end. Ms. Jones has a distinct talent for writing in such a way that makes readers feel what her characters are feeling. Secrets and Lies is, in a nutshell, an emotional roller coaster. But one that is well worth the ride!
4.0 out of 5 stars The worst lies are the lies we tell ourselves... 7 April 2014

Secrets & Lies, by Tracy James Jones, is a multi-cultural romance that takes you on a complex journey of four characters whose lives are bound by deception. Strikingly handsome, Kennedy “Kenny” Jordan, is the son of a successful bank executive. Kenny is touted to be a rising star, but he has a secret that threatens to tarnish his family name. That secret is Bren Searcy. Bren is a woman in transition (literally from male to female) who accepts Kenny’s philandering ways because she’s not sure she can ever give Kenny what other women can. Camilla Vargas, a beautiful Latina, knew she was born to do big things, but her pockets didn’t match her ambition. In order to realize the life she envisions, she knows she must marry up. A chance meeting with Kenny is just the opportunity she needs to put her plan in motion. Camilla’s best friend, Ulanda Jefferson, is none too pleased with Camilla’s new interest, and wastes no time voicing her concerns. But Ulanda has a secret of her own. Her issue with Kenny has more to do with her than she is willing to let on. Can they all maintain their boundaries, or will the secrets and lies destroy them?

Jones weaves an intricate tale about confronting our past, releasing our secrets, and living our true lives. With southern charm and a refreshing maturity, the author manages to craft a beautiful romance, and in the process, tackle some controversial issues. Despite some editing flaws, I wholeheartedly bought Jones’ story and believe in her passion for the craft. I look forward to reading more from this talented author.
5.0 out of 5 stars The Big Secret 6 July 2013

Secrets and Lies by Tracy James Jones is a novel of a different kind. Tracy weaves an unusual love story between a man confused about what he wants and who he loves and woman seeking true love. But the story isn't that simple. Not by a long shot. It's complex in a soap opera kind of way. You see the train wreck coming and can't look away.

Kennedy Jordan loves a woman...a different kind of woman named Bren. He loved her, yet on a basic level, he wasn't sure she would be enough to satisfy his needs...forever. Bren knew it and because of her secret, she overlooked his "affairs" as nothing more than his efforts at confirming his affections for her. Yes, it's complicated all right.

Enter Camilla Vargas...the young woman with an agenda of her own. High on her list was finding an upwardly mobile business man to marry. She baited her trap (no pun-intended) and Jordan fell hard. But, did he fall hard enough to forget his feelings for Bren?

This story is not what I expected. Miss Jones addressed a contemporary love triangle with a completely different angle. It is not about being homo-sexual, hetero-sexual, or straight. It's about love...just loving who you love despite societal prejudice. It's about the struggle to be loyal, to be honest about your purpose, and to be honest with yourself. Fantastic read for a summer by the pool, the river, or the beach.
5.0 out of 5 stars Relationships 21 Aug. 2012

Secrets & Lies is an appropriate name for this book. It is about relationships. Be they family, friends, or lovers. The story takes you into the lives of four people who all have secrets. As with any book dealing with adult relationships, there is adult language and allusions to sexual situations. Thus the book is for a Mature Audience.

Confession: I lost lots of sleep from this book...I couldn't put it down. It is one of those books that kept me wondering who was going to do or say something that was going to dig them into a deeper hole.

When the reader is first introduced to the characters, you don't know what twists and turns their journey will take you on. However, in my opinion it is well worth the ride.

this is an excellent read!! made me think outside the usually boy runs into high school sweetheart and falls more deeply in love than before book...ms. jones has a way with imagery and character development with the likes that i have not encountered in my various readings....it even ended without me feeling disgruntled in anyway....the only problem is....it wasn't long enough!!! i would recommend this to anyone who craves a well written romance that thinks outside the box!!!
