I am so happy to have found this book, I couldn't put it down and gave it priority over housework etc. and finished it in two days!
I have read many great parenting books which I have been putting to practise and couldn't understand why my 5yr old seems to be growing into a petulant, self serving, moody boy that thinks he is entitled to decide what he does and when he does it, and will start screaming and shouting at the drop of a hat. He is well behaved at school, intelligent and creative, so perhaps he was 'letting it all out' once he got home? (And before he leaves??!). ..Maybe it was his personality, as his 3yr old brother is already showing signs of being extremely empathetic, coopertative and affectionate...maybe, but that didn't really explain the total lack of respect he seems to have for me or his father and what we tell him to do - or should I make that ask - because that is one of the golden nuggets contained in this book; I see now where I have been going wrong and what I need to change.

What a relief to read such good solid advice that all makes so much sense to me that I'm convinced the author has got it right.
I have started using his advice straight away and while I don't expect to see a different boy wake up tomorrow morning, I know I'm on the right track and can turn things around.

I can still incorporate other techniques I have learned and will continue to learn from other books, because it all fits in; what I have read previously has its place, but it is only part of the equation - this book fills in the missing bits and I know it will change my style of parenting in all the places that will make the difference I need.

I will be insisting that my husband reads this book!

Thank you so much Mr Ronald G Morrish.

This book changed my family's life for the better in one day. It is so good that it should be recommended to all parents and teachers.
I was beginning to feel down and helpless at times when my son (only 4 yrs old this week) behaved badly. This book is very clear and easy to read. The tips work. We had such a good day today and I never had to raise my voice once, let alone shout. And this is after only one day. This will be one of the most important books I have ever read as my children, my husband and I will be happier and able to enjoy life together for years to come.
When I was teaching I often compared myself unfavourably with another teacher whose classes were so calm. Her pupils were polite and worked hard. She hardly ever shouted or raised her voice. I know know how she did it! It came naturally to her, but we can all learn how to do it using the tips from this book.
Incidentally, my husband and I have raised our children according to attachment parenting principles and this books methods still fit in with that. It encourages a positive relationship with your children and it requires you to spend time with them. It aims to help you educate your children to be responsible adults who care for others and this is an aim of attachment parenting too.

5.0 out of 5 stars so helpful! 20 Oct. 2016

This book is great! Clear, concise, easy and quick to read, yet has all the most important parenting guidelines. I have previously read several very long parenting books, and I think this short, easy read gets all of the important points in there, without all of the fluff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on child disclipline ever written 16 April 2010
By S. Blaisdell - Published on Amazon.com

I checked out dozens of books on child behavior and discipline before I found this gem. Most texts on the subject take poorly thought out or "au courant" misinformation and turn it into 300 page wastes of time and money. Morrish's book makes all other attempts at this field unnecessary - this is the only book you'll ever need for creating developmentally appropriate and EFFECTIVE strategies for child discipline. (The only exceptions to this might be kids with severe developmental disorders, mental retardation, or the like but I suspect Morrish's basic tenets might hold true in these situations as well.)

What else is there to say? Even if, as a parent, you're convinced you have a solid grasp on child behavior control and discipline you still need this book. It's that good. If I had my way I'd have this text be standard reading for all parents, potential and extant. Do yourself, your child, and our society a tremendous favor - buy this book, commit it to memory, and put it into action with your children. Now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked for handling our spirited 3 year old 16 April 2011

We needed to delve a bit deeper than Secrets of the Baby Whisperer for Toddlers with our spirited 3 year old and a family friend who is a psychologist recommended this one. Wonderful book, down to earth, easy to read and with practical solutions that helped us a great deal. I wish it weren't so hard to find. Of course some of the book does not apply yet to our child but we will be hanging on to this to help us through childhood and beyond.
