Good storyline though quite tedious, didn't find any graphic sex as previously mentioned. I think he's reviewing a different book!

I really enjoyed Michael Fowlers latest book. have just read the review by Sylvia P Taylor I think we must have read different books. There is no sex in this book just a series of murders and mystery. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Really enjoyed this sitting on the beach. DS Hunter Kerr is a likeable character and the plot well written, there was a high degree of realism about the book and it didn't surprise me to find when i finished that Michael Fowler was a former police officer. For the sake of the story line sometimes what would be against procedure has to be allowed i guess but in the Secrets of the Dead these were kept to a minimum (unlike some other books)and it felt as if the ebb and flow of a major investigation was allowed to come to life. Thank you for writing this excellent book.....more please!

This is a good, solid police procedural. The plot is interesting - a dying retired detective decides to come clean about a fabricated confession which led to an innocent man being convicted in 1983. As the bodies pile up the mystery gets deeper and the book turns into a real page turner as you want to know what happens next. The characterisation is a little bland - everyone gets on well and there is no friction in the team which is a little hard to swallow but this is a plot driven novel so that is a minor quibble. It's worth a read.

Really like the DS Kerr books, the character is likeable and the book has a couple of storyline to keep you interested. Is good to see a detective that is not a 'broken' character, but is happily married and not a drunk! Highly recommend

This is a fairly standard police procedural book and there is a lot of police and procedure and not much else. I like crime books where there is more than one suspect and the fun is seeing how quickly you can spot the culprit. This tale is more a very long winded explanation of how the police nailed the baddie. We are treated with detailed descriptions of attire, place, food and drink and even how you need to turn the key in the ignition to start a car (yes really). It flowed stiltedly along and although I read to the very end (which had a nice little twist) it was more that there was nothing on tele when I was reading it that got me there.

This is the first book I have read of Michael Fowler. He is a brilliant story teller and I found I could not put the book down. I am really looking forward to reading more of his books.

Good characters, and I think it reflects the real time pace of an investigation, how they have to tick all the boxes before arresting someone.
