This is a conspiracy book a bit different to the norm where we meet a sweet little boy who was brought into the world for nefarious reasons. When Travis Brody accidentally becomes this childs' saviour he is pushed headlong into a conspiracy that would shock the world to it's very core.
This is a slow burner of a story that keeps you interested if for no reason other than to find out just what the secret of this little boys' birth is.I enjoyed this book and found I didn't want to put it down but I would have liked a bit more information on the experiment and the people involved.I'm sure there is a book two, well I hope so as I really liked the characters in it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmmmmm... 2 Feb. 2013

If it weren't for the fact that the author's storyline held my interest in seeing what happened (although it was pretty much easy to see where most of it was going in the end), I would have not finished this book. Characters somewhat unrealistic and with little depth.....essentially changing from bad, hard guy to completely good and exemplary in one brief moment. Got really tired of the language, also. In light of the "character portrayals", it seemed inappropriate. Finally, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and realistic dialogue are not the authors strong suit. I'm not a writer, but I could rewrite with significant improvements. I think it's her first book....so hopefully her talent with storyline and action-paced plot will be back with better writing skills in the above areas.

2.0 out of 5 stars False Advertising 31 Jan. 2013

Secrets of 'Bethlehem' is a great title; I'll give it to the marketing department--it caught me attention. But the story has so little light or hope like other great stories that have come out of the other Beth-le-hem (Israel) that I'm not sure why they tried to be 'clever' by giving the book this title. The eponymous Bethlehem here is in Pennsylvania, and is a broken-down, old coal/steel mill town, that seems to churn out people who are as hard and cold as the product it used to make. The story is relentlessly icy and alienating. I guess if you 'hang in there' you will get some small reward but it was just to dark for my tastes. Sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars great plot! 20 July 2013

I chose this book because I read an article in a magazine about Kate Porter and how she had struggled for her dream to write a book. I was amazed how quickly the book captured me. I didn't want to put it down. I enjoyed the characters and the concept of the plot was truly interesting. There were multiple editing errors but they were easy to overlook because I was enjoying the book so much.
4.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and full of suspense! 23 Jun. 2014

I was enthralled with this book by Kate Porter. It is the story of a five year old boy who is the result of a scientific experiment that involved cloning. He has been taken by his guardian in order to keep him safe.
There is so much action and suspense that it is hard to take it all in. The story flows well and I feel that with a little editing this could easily be a 5 star read. I hope that others will take the opportunity to read this thrilling book!
5.0 out of 5 stars Original idea - would be a great movie! 5 Aug. 2012

This is a compelling story and a wonderful book for a first time author!! It kept me reading to the very end. Love the play on the name Bethlehem given the subject matter. This author took the controversial and scientific world of cloning but brought the passion for readers like me who love a good romance and I couldn't help but turn the page to see what would happen next. This is a story that would just turn the religious world upside down! Little Jesse is so cool anyway and when you find out the circumstance of his birth, you are solidly in his corner. Great story and worth the read. I will be buying her books from now on.
