This book is very funny: I can totally understand the author's comments. In fact when I wasn't laughing I was nodding along.
However, the publisher's use of 's for plurals ended up annoying me so much that much of the enjoyment of the actual book was lost for me. I know it's pedantic, but we encourage our kids to read in order to improve their langauge skills as well as for enjoyment -if publishers cannot be bothered to get this right in printed material what hope is there for the rest of us? Just because the book is mainly for adults and not kids why should standards be lower?
This smacks of both laziness and carelesness and it's a pity as this is otherwise an enjoyable, well written descriptive book.

You know those things in life that you think but are too scared to say? This author tells it how it is. A unique book with a real-life diary format. Unusual but it works. One of those books where it will have you laughing out loud, not to mention those brilliant cringe-worthy 'Oh my god, I've soooooo done that!' moments. It's a bargain! Can't wait for this author to write the next one. Tedious Tina, ex-husbands pants and Bin Laden's bed linen .... paaaaaahaaaaaaa ... genius!

It's not often I can relate to authors, in this case it happened frequently. It was a funny, interesting read with lots of 'oh my god I've done that' moments. Put your feet up and be prepared to read through to the end as its impossible to put down!

This diary takes through the day-to-day hardships of a single mother. As a doctor I was away for 60% plus of my time. Three daughters, single mum is virtually there. The narrative is hilarious and realistic enough to appreciate the problems that crop up. Fortunately, most are dealt with but the difficulties are hilariously described by the author through mum. For those faced with the complexities of single parenthood, you take the rough with the smooth but retain control. Funny and humorous with a high recommendation. Looking forward to follow-ups. This book has all the ingredients of a sequel. Laughter is a rare commodity in book-reading.
Katherine Williams has achieved this. Well done! Much recommended.

Having occasionally read an article from the authors blog I decided to get the kindle version of this book to take with me on the Iphone and dip in and out of at a time to suit me. The way the diary is structured, has made it perfect for doing just that. I can read a few diary entries and then pick it up again the following day or next time I'm stuck waiting in a queue.

I was really surprised by how much I've enjoyed it so far, having expected it to be a bit self-serving or ranty. But the well written, off-handed humour, had me laughing by the end of the very first paragraph.

Definitely the 'Bridget Jones Diary' of the mothering world

MY REVIEW
I downloaded this e-book form Amazon.co.uk when it was Free! The cartoonists nature of the cover suggested that it would be a light funny type of read. Wow this one really delivered. Its humour that any mum or single mum can identify with. You go through the trials and tribulations of dealing with the ex and his ultimate let downs, when he doesn't turn up, doesn't pay his CSA or brings the kids home early. Then there the dealing with a teenager. the only thing I felt missing was a bit of interaction with the older generation. though having said that there was so much already covered. I am the type of person that likes the program "Mock The Week" a satirical look at the weeks news. Well you would put this book on a par with that program it is a satirical look at the world through the tired eyes of a single mum trying to make ends meet and the money stretch like elastic. I loved the references to PNP = Pot Noodle Parenting. I won't go into more detail as then it would spoil your discovery of this, in my opinion brilliant, laugh out loud book! Even though I downloaded this book as a freebie I would definitely say its worth buying! I also have to say I would love this fellow single mum as a friend! Life would never be dull or feel miserable with her wit and take on life around.
Did I enjoy it? Oh, Yes! Would I recommend it? Yes to all mums! (not just the single ones, though when I look around at myself and my friends most of them seem to be single mums!
Would I read more by Katherine Williams? Yes please! Would I read a BK2? Yes

Have followed The Secret Diary of a Single Mum for some time now and love how she does just say it how it is, doesn't pull punches, always witty, always funny - she's the voice in your head making a break for it - long may the diary continue!
